have you ever... (interview related)

have you ever finished interviewing, felt like you were for sure NOT going to get the job, but then been offered the job?

i just finished interviewing for an internal position and am not feeling great about it but am trying to be optimistic.

yes, i'd like for you to cheer me up but i also want the truth. : )

Thanks!

Re: have you ever... (interview related)

  • Yes! (And I'm not just saying that.) I was invited to apply for an internal position and had meet informally several times with the interviewer, and those meetings had gone really well. Then we had the official interview (which I was under the impression was just a formality) and it felt like it went horribly--my answers were ok, but the vibe of the whole thing was just majorly off. The interview was on a Friday and I worried all weekend and assumed I wouldn't be offered the position. But I was offered the position on the following Monday. Good luck--hope it works out this way for you too!
  • No.  But I have walked out of an interview thinking "Thank God that guy isn't going to be my boss!"  I wouldn't have taken the job if it were offered after the interview.  I got my rejection letter two days later in the mail.

  • Yes. I tend to be pretty insecure when it comes to my interviewing skills so I usually leave feeling like "it's not happening".

On the other hand, I have had a few interviews where I knew I wouldn't get the job and I didn't.

    Good luck to you!

  • Oddly enough in the last few interviews I've had- when it goes really well, I don't get the job and the ones I felt didn't go great I got the offer.  Such a mixed result!  Next time I interview, I can't help but feel discouraged when things go too swimmingly.  Its messing with my head.
  • Yes actually!  I walked out of a first interview thinking 'man I blew that' 'did I even answer the qustions they asked??' and surprisingly got called for a 2nd interview and then was offered the position .. I was shocked.  I felt I wasnt prepared enough and I rushed and was a hot mess, but I guess I'm just too judgemental of myself ... perhaps it really didn't go as bad as you think ;)
