My last day

So all went well, my boss brought cake and champagne and was perfectly fine.. then came 3:15.

She decided 45 mins before I left that she wanted to fire the conference coordinator (who like everyone else before her has become a good friend of mine). She starts organizing her computer and says she's firing her. No reason, she's just not working out for her.

Then, she asks me if I want do take on those responsibilities from home for a few hours a week. I don't know what to say. The whole reason for leaving is to get out of the office so I think I'm willing to do it as the pay is excellent and I do want to remain involved should I ever want her job but I don't want to be under her control. That job is 15 hours a week but I did it along with my regular job last year so I'm confident I could do it in 5-10, which is easy from home.

Either way, she's a nut job. Who just decides that randomly? Especially 8 weeks before conference and when she has an entirely new staff person.

Anyway, I'm FREE! NO MORE GOING INTO THE OFFICE AND BEING YELLED AT ON A DAILY BASIS! WOOHOO!

So are you still working for her?

    She's a nutjob.

  • Didn't tell her yes or no. Originally I agreed to stay on as a contractor for the website which is fine by me. As I say, being in the office was the issue. The conference position makes like $5/hr more than I was making so heck I think I'd be mad not to take it on for a few hours a week if it's all at home except for going down to Pasadena in July (which I was planning to do anyway!)

The board seriously need to get a clue though... what sort of person fires a perfectly good conference manager 8 weeks before a conference?

  • That is crazy she wants to fire someone right before a conference. I think I would take it too as long as I didn't have to go into the office. If I had to go in the office I might not take it. If you take it make sure she knows it is on your terms and not hers.

Yay for being free though and not having to deal with nut job.

Hopefully the board will get a clue.
