Embarrassing, sappy confession

Every two years when I vote, I always have a moment where I get a bit emotional about it.  Not the idea of any particular candidate winning, but just the pride of being able to vote (the idea that lil' old me has a say in what goes on), and being proud of my country giving the people a say, as flawed as the system can be.

I was a government major in college with an emphasis on American government, and am an attorney, so obviously I have a vested interest. Wink  But I don't think you need this background to appreciate the blessing of days like this.

Re: Embarrassing, sappy confession

  • I feel the same way. I started getting teary watching all of the elderly African-American women in my neighborhood coming to vote and having the opportunity for the first time to vote for a black man for president.

  • I also get sappy. This morning I woke up extra early because I was too excited to keep sleeping. It's like Christmas!

I do too, but especially this year!

IIOY- i'm glad you are with us over here, thanks for being a great conservative voice of reason!

That's very nice of you, and thank you for inviting me!  I suspect I have come off as more liberal than I really am simply because of the particular issues in play this year and my disgust with the state of my party.  If we were having this election in another year, I might not seem so "reasonable" to Obama supporters. Stick out tongue

  • I loved standing in line with all the other voters--I felt such a sense of camaraderie. It's so exciting! If my candidate of choice doesn't win I will be bitterly disappointed, but I'm still so heartened by the big turnout this year.

And ditto zoegirltx-- it's great having you here, IIOY!

  • I'm totally sappy this year, and I'm not even crazy about the guy I voted for!

This was my first general election voting in person, and I enjoyed it!

  • I looked around while I was in line and I felt gratitude for the ability to vote so (relatively) easily.  I didn't have to worry about bombs going off at polling places or horrible disorganization.  And we actually don't really have that much opportunity for fraud, provided most people are still using paper ballots.  Not compared to other countries, anyway.

  • I woke up early, too, because I couldn't sleep! I don't even have to be at work until 3! I'm so happy and excited! This is the first general election where I'm voting in person, too, MD. I voted absentee in 2000 (in college) and in 2004 (in grad school in Europe).
