I gave James his first bottle (of pumped milk) over the weekend and he did great, and he's been nursing fine since then (yay! i was so scared of him rejecting the boob after getting a bottle).
There are a few days over the next couple of weeks that I have several things going on, and want to take bottles with me to make things easier. I know you have to pump whenever you give the baby a bottle, so your body knows to produce that much more, but WHEN do you have to pump to make up for the bottle they just ate? Surely you don't have to pump right before or after you give the bottle, because it seems like that would defeat the purpose of the convenience of a bottle. So do you just have to pump sometime between the bottle feeding and the next feeding? Or just have an extra pumping session during sometime that same day?
Hopefully this isn't a stupid question, I just don't want to mess up haha!
Re: Tiff (and anyone else) - pumping question
You just need to pump once for every bottle of pumped milk. The time doesn't really matter much. You'll just have to work it into your schedule for that day. You can do it before or you can wait until after. Just be careful that you don't run into his next feeding.
Other ladies would know more about this than me, but perhaps if you get in a pickle you can give him the bottle, nurse him the next time and just pump right after..if that's how it works out..
I'm glad that he didn't have any issues going between the breast and bottle!
