Hi Ladies!
What's everyone up to lately?
I haven't been on the computer much, mostly because I've been so busy. Grad school ended last week until July 6th, and I literally just finished a paper for my certification about 15 minutes ago. I'm fielding a few problems with submitting it right now, but it should all work out before it's due on Monday. If I pass this, I will get my second level of teaching certification (there are three levels).
I also finally got over some really bad poison ivy, which was driving me nuts. I was on steroids, and it literally made me feel psycotic. I'm really glad that's all over.
How's everyone else?
Re: what's new?
Oh boy, I'm glad you're feeling better now!! Congrats on wrapping up grad school (temporarily)! Enjoy the time off!!
We're in sort of a holding pattern on DH's job while he waits to go through a physical and pass all of the background checks and such. We're wanting to believe everyone when they say these things are formalities, but we're too afraid to have this ruined and taken away from us so we're trying to remain somewhat realistic. However, we're super excited and ready to begin figuring out how to make a complete transition to WV!
Other than that, life is status quo. Still no baby. Obviously. But at least the weather is starting to warm up. I am so ready for summer!
Hello ladies.....
Melko, congrats with your certification. It's got to feel good to have the time off. And boo on the poison ivy, glad you are feeling better from all of that.
Carcrash, good luck with everything. When do you hopefully get to know when everything is excepted for DH's job? I haven't been following too much so you might have answered it earlier.
It's been a long time since I've been around. I have been extremely busy with nursing clinicals and other classes so I haven't been much on the computer much for leisure. I finish the semester up this week and hopefully have about 3 weeks before my next round of classes and clinicals. So during those next few weeks, it'll be a lot of house work and yard work. Yeah....
Oh, you know, nothing too much new around here. Might be looking for a second job because we got a new GM (finally) and she scheduled everyone for just one three hour shift this coming week. I'm sorry, but three hours a week doesn't cut it. My supposed promotion seems to have fallen through, so all that worry for nothing.
H is doing well, though he hates his psych rotation. He has internal med starting the 24th and he got this idea into his head that he can join the Air Force and work as an ob/gyn for them and they'll pay him back for med school. I'm a little hesitant about the military, but at least the AF is better than the Army.
And we went to the PBR last night and it was freaking awesome. Also, Ocho Cinco (sp) fell off his bull as soon as the gate opened. What a joke. And then the PBR gave him a check for $10,000 and I was like WTF, he'd better donate that to charity. And he didn't look very thrilled to be there, but maybe that's because he failed at bull riding. And I got a little stuffed bull which I later found out is anatomically correct and that made my day.

Panda: that sucks about the new GM! Good luck finding a second job!!! We learned with the military not to get your hopes up until it's a done deal (remember DH not making it past the physical because of something that happened 15 years ago and the military telling him initially it would be fine. Guess not!). Best of luck with that decision!!
DH's physical for this job is on Tuesday, but they told him they would take a week to get back to him. This is the slowest process EVER. It will likely push back his start date (assuming this all goes through), which is good, but we can't really begin looking in to areas to move to until we know this is a sure thing. It's one big holding pattern!
Wow, you ladies have so much going on!!! Good wishes to all!
I'm on day 7 of a 13 day work week, so I've been (and will continue to be) MIA for a while! I have a few days off I need to use up before the end of June, though, so I'm really looking forward to some relaxation.
Other than work, I'm still job-hunting, keeping my band going, and running. H and I are thinking about a 10k in August! And I'd like to do the Rock'n'roll Half Marathon in August 2012, I think.
Also, H just found out he passed his super-important test! It was his third time taking it and he could only take it five times...him failing would mean he couldn't be a teacher, so this is a HUGE relief for us. YAY!
Melko, poison ivy? That SUCKS! I'm glad you're feeling better and have some down time.
CCH, that's so weird that your H has to pass a physical! I'm sure he'll be fine, but after all my years of my H going for police jobs I totally understand your hesitation to really start planning. Also, please let us know what happens at your RE appt!
Nvanhelden, enjoy some down time!
Panda, that sucks about the promotion. I hope you can find a second (and better!) job soon! I don't know what PBR is, but I'm guessing it's not Pabst Blue Ribbon, eh?

Noron: just reading about your work week (weeks?) and the marathons make me sleepy! You're such a trooper!! Enjoy the days off when you get em!!
Apparently it's not uncommon for a post offer physical to take place, but I'm confused why they want a chest xray. WTF? After DH flunked the military physical I'm just going to hold out to see what happens. Though, this is a cushy desk job-if they don't take him because of a bum knee it's total grounds for a lawsuit, and since they're hiring him in to their legal department we would assume that this is really just a formality (unless drugs are found). The military is one thing, your average company is another.
I'll let you guys know how the RE appt goes tomorrow. DH will likely be stuck at his physical, so I'll be going solo. I'm looking forward to it and dreading it all at the same time.

It is SOO addicting! The impact it has on my stress relief is amazing, truly. I don't know what I would do without it.
Have you done any races longer than a 5k? I'd LOVE to do the R'n'R half THIS August, or even the September half here, but I don't know that I could get up to that distance in that amount of time.
We did a 5k the weekend after our first in 37 minutes! We were a bit hungover, so I'm pretty excited we did that well!
Semi-related - do you ever get nauseous when running or after a race? I had my first bout after our second 5k and have been having issues since. I'm wondering if it's due to my new BCP or just a side effect of running?

I did a 5 mile race last November, but I had gotten up to 5 miles by July 4th, and 6 miles about a week or two after that.
Have you looked into Hal Higdon's Novice Half Marathon Plan?
I've definitely gotten nauseaous after races. I almost threw up after my last one. Not everytime though.
LOL! Yes it does!

I have looked into Higdon's plan - and I'm trying to loosely follow it, kind of. I'm trying to do 3 miles 3 (or so) times a week and a longer run on the weekend (on Mother's day I did 4 miles without stopping - woo hoo!). Eventually I'll try to do 5 miles 3 x a week and 10 on the weekend. With my crazy May work schedule I haven't been able to keep up on my mileage, though
I only did 2 miles yesterday because I thought I was going to throw up...and I wasn't running that hard. I might go off this new BCP to see if it helps; I feel like I shouldn't be puke-y after 2 easy miles, kwim? I also probably shouldn't be puke-y every time I run. And I've been super emotional lately - I almost cried at work today! That's not like me. Ok, now I'm just rambling...but I'm pretty sure I've just convinced myself to try going off this crazy pill to see if it helps!
We had a 5 miler picked out (called the Cinco de Miler - how cute is that!), but it was the morning after our first softball game and we thought we'd be hungover. BOY WERE WE RIGHT.
What does your running schedule look like every week? Are you doing Hal's 1/2 plan?

Luckily, I have DH to help me with my training. He's doing a half iron man in a couple of weeks.
How is your nutrition? are you drinking enough water? eating enough before? eating too much?
If youre really emotional and what not it's a good chance its your BCP. I'd talk to your dr.
Right now, I'm training for a triathon in August, and then once thats over, I'll start training for the half marathon in october.
sounds like you're on the right track!
I think I'm good on the nutrition/h20 front - I'm tracking everything since I'm trying to drop my last 10 or so pounds, and I'm trying to get lots of protein and whole grains.
I went off my BCP few months ago because my old kind made me feel all kinds of nutty. When I went to the doctor a month or so ago, she told me to try this new kind and ditch it if I didn't like it - so I ditched the BCP today and I already feel better. It could be all in my head, but I'll take it!
I forgot about your tri - that's so awesome! I always wondered - do you train for a tri in segments (water one day, running the next, biking the next) or do combos?
