So we are on to Rocephin shots...

Cam hasn't responded to the last 2 antibiotics for this ear infection, so he's had this one for just over 2 weeks.  We were back again today and she started him on Rocephin shots.  We go back again for more doses on Sunday and Monday.

So for Ally and others that have gone this route...will they keep him on this treatment until if/when he gets tubes?  We don't see Dr. Young until the 26th and I just don't know if this is the end of his infections.  Unless these shots do wonders, he hasn't gone more than a week without an infection since the end of December.   I guess I'm just curious if he continues with infections until the ENT appointment if they will just continue giving him these shots?  The poor little guy was not a fan.  I just want this whole battle to be over!

  • Oh no! I'm so sorry for the shots.  When R went through this, yes- they said she would continue to do the shots until her surgery. Thankfully we had the surgery before she needed the shots again. Maybe they could move up the appt.? GL!

From my experience at the clinic (and with Sophia) once they start the shots that's pretty much the end of oral antibiotics.  However, at least for Sophia the shots cleared up the infection a lot better and kept it at bay longer than oral antibiotics.  I think we went a whopping two weeks without an infection after her first round of shots!

ditto.  it will probably clear, but it basically means tubes will happen at the next infection.

  • With Ella it was rocephin shots, ENT appt a few days later, tubes 5 days after that. I think they may have kept it at bay for a while. With her weight loss because of the antibiotics they moved us through quickly...she was a peanut anyway, but with every different antibiotic, she lost more and more weight :( I hope this keeps them away long enough until you see Dr. Young and hopefully tubes go in soon after that!

This.  Thankfully, we say the ent shortly after her injections.  But by the time she had surgery, she had another infection.  The only good thing about that was the ent was able to suction the fluid out and she didn't have to have oral antibiotics.
