Tomorrow I need to put in my 2 weeks. I'm feeling really chicken about it. I've only been there a little less than a year and there's a deadline coming up in about 4 weeks so I'm bailing at a bad time for everyone. The company has been great to me; I get along with everyone; I have no complaints. But I've gotten another offer that's simply better and after much consideration it's too good to turn down. My coworkers will not be happy about it and I'm going to get cold shouldered (at best) and the next two weeks will probably be pure hell. Plus I just hate delivering bad news so I am not looking forward to making the announcment. I have my resignation letter ready, will meet with my manager when he has some free time tomorrow (not sure exactly when)...any other advice or words that will help me grow the balls to get it over with?
Re: Encouragment?
I know I need to just suck it up and get it done. Knowing all the drama that will ensue in the next 2 weeks makes me sick to my stomach, but knowing I'll be free of it after 2 weeks is nice to think about - just need to keep my eye on the big picure. Thank you both!
Hang in there. Even if you are right and it's the worst case scenario, it's only a couple of weeks and you will be okay in the end.
It is always hard to resign but you have to just have faith in yourself and dont let them question what you are doing. And let them know that you are willing to help in anyway these last 2 weeks since you know deadlines are approaching.
I don't want to put negativity in your head but I would also prepare for them to let you go immediately. Not sure what field you are in but I know some places will have you just leave that day, rather than wait 2 weeks that way you are not stealing confidential info.
