Tri-state area nurses (NY, PA, NJ)
I am trying to enter a nursing program in the tri-state area. I am currently considering either an AA or BSN program - trying to keep my options open. (only one pre-req left to take, already have a BA degree in another field).
I would prefer a PT evening program.
Any suggestions? Know of any schools or programs to avoid?
Re: Tri-state area nurses (NY, PA, NJ)
Hi,
I am normally a lurker, but I've considered the Nursing field so I thought I would try to help you out. In New York, there are several schools that have Nursing. Adelphi in lower Manhattan has a Bachelors in Nursing program that if you have all your pre-reqs you can complete their program in 2 years. It is an intense 4 nights a week I believe from 6PM to 10PM program.
The community colleges are very competitive and most of the time, they still have a waiting list which is why I just went for my Liberal Arts degree. The College of New Rochelle has a great Bachelors program as well and that is similar to Adelphi. The private colleges are expensive though, if you're willing to take out student loans. HTH.
The only class I am lacking is Nutrition. I may take that in January as I am taking a Microbio class and Developmental Psy in Sept.
Thanks!
Not sure exactly where you are looking, and based on what you said about part-time or not too intensive, I'm not sure if this would work for you, but something to look into..
The University at Buffalo has an ABS program, which is an accelerated Bachelor's program in nursing. If you already have a bachelor's degree (in any field) then you can apply for the program. It starts in May and from May to August (split into two summer sessions) you complete your "junior" year of nursing school, and then from September to the following May you finish your senior year. So you would be able to get a Bachelor's in Nursing in one year.
Unfortunately, it is a very rigorous program.. you are in class M-F from 8-5 all summer. Once the fall comes, the schedule settles down a little bit, but still a full-time schedule and very demanding.
Something to look into though if your serious about getting it done quickly!
