How do you pick a good avocado? The last two grocery trips I have picked an avocado that I thought was pretty firm and the color was a dark dark green, almost black. When I got it home and cut into it it was disgusting. Like mushy and black in some spots. Both times! The second time I could chalk it up to waiting almost a week to cut into it.
I think my grocery store needs to have little signs near each fruit and veggie explaining how to pick each particular item - they'd sell more if you ask me.

Re: Produce help
If I am using it that day, I go for one that is soft to touch, but doesn't mush when touched.
If I am using it in a few days I go with a firmer one.

i suck at choosing produce which is why if if james doesn't do ALL of the shopping, he'll just do the produce and i do the regular stuff. seriously, if i ever buy produce, i am made fun of :P
he said you want it to be semi-soft.

I have no suggestions about picking produce. Dh does all of the grocery shopping since he is home one day during the week and the stores are less crowded.
But I would totally suggest the sign for how to choose the produce to your grocery store. You never know they might think its a great idea too!
