**kastle** or other gardeners
I planted some herbs last summer...rosemary, sage (just regular sage, I think) and a pineapple sage. And I planted them WAY too close together.
Now that they have matured a bit, they are all on top of each other. I'd really like to move the rosemary bush because that's in the middle of the three, but is this a terrible time of year to do that?
All three look gorgeous and healthy right now, I'm just afraid of crippling them :-(
Re: **kastle** or other gardeners
I'm no pro, but I think it would be ok - just be sure to build up around them with mulch/dirt and water them more frequently until they get used to their new home.
And I'd dig around it pretty big to protect the root ball. Also, water the hole you're going to move them to before putting them back in the ground.
Actually, this week with the cooler, possibly rainy-er weather would be an ideal time to transplant. Ditto what membrn says re: digging the hole at least 2x as wide, but just as deep as the root ball.
Also, if you have the hard-packed clay, consider really working that area with compost. Rosemary doesn't like wet feet and clay doesn't drain well. Although, if it's happy in your existing soil, that may not be necessary, on second thought.
Sage will continue to get big, btw. I have a neighbor who has a sage bush that's at least 3' tall by 3' wide.
whoa. maybe I'll move both the rosemary and the sage. They are toward the front of the garden, close to the border. If the sage is can get that big, it should probably be elsewhere, too.
sheesh, my garden is a mess. I've definitely tried to put too much in there because it's the only really sunny spot in either the front or backyard that would be good for a bed.
Thanks for the advice, ladies!!
