Need some vibes (long)

Hey girls!! I need some vibes for our puppy, Luna. I see they started working for Nelly so I wanted to give it a shot. Wink

On Wednesday DH got some Alpo for her & didn't read the label when it said "for adult dogs". Well she started throwing up later that day. I thought okay it must have upset her stomach. Thursday she was barely eating or drinking anything. She would eat some of her chew sticks (which are full of protein) and that was about it. So I called the vet & she said that if she was still not eating or drinking by friday or still throwing up to bring her in.

DH said she threw up a tiny bit after a ride in the car but was fine the rest of the day, eating.. drinking etc. Yesterday morning after DH left for work I took her outside to potty & then she came in drank some water & I put her in the bed with me & she went back to sleep. Maybe 30mins later I get woken up by her throwing up all the water she drank, on me.

I started panicking because she is STILL throwing up. Sad I called & took her to the vet. They did an xray to make sure there was no foreign object in her belly, checked for parasites & all that. She gave her a big pocket of fluid under her skin so she didnt get dehydrated & a shot for nausea. Said no food or water til 4-5. I gave her a little water & a small amount of food and she was great.

I have pills to give her twice a day. I gave her the nausea pill this morning & she had been drinking water just fine. She eats her food & shortly after just threw it up again Sad I know its gonna take a little bit for it to work but our poor baby is still sick.

Any of those powerful nestie vibes to get her better & back to normal would be awesome! Thanks so much ladies!!

  • Aww...poor Luna! Definitely lots of vibes that she is okay and feeling better!

I hope you don't mind, but I'd like to share this link:

  • Poor Luna!  I'd call the vet again tomorrow.  I'm suspecting that they gave her a Cerenia injection for nausea.  You can also give her Cerenia tablets too.  Sometimes the doctors will prescribe them, sometimes they won't.  Sounds like she needs some anti nausea meds for a few more days.

Also, be sure to feed her a bland diet in small amts.  Your vet should have a prescription bland diet you can get there, but you could also cook hamburger and rice in equal amounts.  Just go slow and steady.  No large meals until she is much better.

Good luck and keep us posted!!!

  • Feed her boiled chicken and white rice (not instant rice) for a couple days to help her stomach settle and slowly mix in her regular food over a couple days. The chicken and rice might help settle her tummy. I also put ice cubes in water to encourage drinking. Hope she's feeling better soon!

Yep she gave her Centrine & Metronidazole. Both to be taken twice a day.

Thanks for the advice ladies! We will definitely be using it.

  • Oh no poor puppy!!! So many t&p's, I also was going to suggest the white rice and chicken (or we do ground turkery sometimes too) as long as your vet said it was fine, that is what ours has suggested plenty of times during various doggy ailments.

I hope she feels better soon!!!!

Ditto all of this.  I have been there, and it takes a few days for the system to get straightened out.

  • Poor puppy.  Positive vibes for her.  I can only ditto what pp said about feeding her a bland diet right now and maybe getting her a higher quality food when she can handle dog food again.  Her puppy belly just might not be able to digest that type of food very well.
