XP: Need some decor suggestions

I am debating between stenciling the wall behind our bed in our master or doing a grouping of artwork.  If I stencil the wall, there really isn't anywhere else to hang anything w/o hanging it over the stencil, which I could do.

This is the only pic I have at work.  Where the long dresser is there is a window to the right and then a tall dresser on the other side.  The wall where the pic was taken there is a window in the middle.  The only full wall is the wall where the bed is.

I already printed out this stencil onto 11x17 and tried it out on the plain primed walls to see.  I'm not sure if the stencil goes with the paisley bedding though.  I am modifying the design and not doing the double lines.

If I do a grouping of pictures, it would be beach type prints that are in similar soft blue, green, gray colors like the bedding.  Curtains in the room are choc brown and the walls will be SW Salmovar Silver.

Here are some prints from etsy that I'm liking for the room:

  • If it were me, i'd do artwork, something i could change up over time if i got bored with it, or found something new I loved.

Ditto Kathy.  It will be much easier to change the decor if you do the hung artwork.  That way if you get sick of those pictures in a year, you can just change them out and it won't involve any major work.

  • Why not do both? Use the stencil and create pieces of artwork to go above the bed.

This. I get bored easily and rather change out pictures or artwork.

  • i love the stencil!

i also don't see why you can't add some art if you wanted to.

  • I love the stencil. I just saw something like that picture you showed, on a blog (maybe a link from YHL?) and have been thinking about it since. I say go for it, it's just one wall and you're a pro painter you can always paint over it. ;)

I do think the idea of not doing a double line may make it work better with the bedspread.

And like the others said, you can add some art still.

  • I tried the stencil out on the primed walls yesterday to see.  I think DH and I have agreed that if we do it, how I'll lay it out.  He doesn't want anything too busy.

I should have taken a pic with my phone, but I wasn't thinking.

I think I might do the stencil and put some art on the wall with the 2 doors and see what I want to do for art in the bathroom.

What's pushing me back to the stencil is I ordered this from target last week for the office and we already have a grouping of pics in the family that I'm about to add to, so that would be a lot of similar art displayed in the house.

personally, i like when there is one thing that ties all the rooms together whether it be a certain color, design, etc...
