If you've had stitches before, come in!

How long do I need to keep them covered with a bandage? I've had them since Thursday (on my upper back) and have been keeping them covered since I'm putting Vaseline/Neosporin on it. It's a giant PITA to try to change the bandage by myself, but I also don't want it to get all infected.

I've only had stitches in my mouth and lady bits, and those were all dissolving stitches, so I don't really know how to take care of these.

ETA: Ok, so talking about stitches in my mouth and my lady bits in the same sentence came out totally wrong lol. My widsom teeth and when I had Brody....lol. Go ahead and laugh. I did.

  • The time I cut my wrist (suspect spot but totally moving accident related) I kept the bandage on until I was told the stitches could come out.  I didn't want to risk something snagging and tearing the incision spot.

I kept a bandage on mine the whole time, I think. But it was on my shoulder in an area I need to move a lot so I didn't want to take any chances of messing up the stitches.

  • I had a mole removed from my back last year, I think I downgraded to a bandaid w neosporin after about 5 days.

  • I think I only had my bandage on for 2 days. I wonder if it has to do with the location of your stitches. Mine were not in a spot that would stretch or move to much. I think I had the stitches in for 2 weeks and then started using mederma once they were out.

  • Yeah, mine will have been in 2 weeks by the time they're removed next Friday. I fully plan on starting a Mederma treatment at that point Smile

  • I give mederma  YesYes, I didn't even finish a full tube but my scare is pretty much gone. If I stood infront of you , you probably wouldn't notice it but it I pointed it out you would.

I kept them covered until they came out as I didn't want to risk something getting caught and pulling on them.

  • I would only do the vaseline or neosporin for a few days. If you keep the area too moist, it will inhibit healing. A bandaid isn't a bad idea, but really, if the area won't snag on anything, I don't think it is a huge deal to leave the bandaid off.
