I know this is pretty specific, but the D&R board won't have local recs. We are planning to put a new porch and deck on our house, and I just found out that we're doing it in 2 weeks (due to some family coming to help). Now I'm scrambling to do my research and get supplies. I want to be able to price out both wood and composite decking materials. Since we will be hauling it ourselves, I would prefer to stay in this general area (don't want to have to drive an hour) - we're in Westland.
Do you know of any local lumber yards or building supply places that I should look? Obviously I will check both Home Depot and Lowes, but I've heard that local places tend to be cheaper, and I don't know where to look. I did an internet search, but it's hard to tell if these places sell what I need (apparently most of them don't have websites). I will do some calling around as well.
TIA!
Re: Lumber/Building Supply Rec (west side)
We've used Mans Lumber in Canton and they were really helpful. I don't know about pricing compared to Lowe's and Home Depot though. We went there because they staff people that know a thing or two about lumber....unlike the big box stores near us.

This is who I was going to recommend as well. They're on Michigan Ave kind of over by the new Walmart. I can't remember the crossroads at this moment.

Also wanted to say congrats on your weight achievement! That's great! I need to put myself on track too, care to share some tips?
