leesburg restaurants

so our winery/leesburg weekend is coming up (woot!) and i'd love some nestie faves to try out. we only need lunch and dinner suggestions since we'll have breakfast at the inn. most likely we'll do one splurge dinner and one more low-key dinner.

TIA

Re: leesburg restaurants

  • I haven't been to a ton of places in Leesburg, I have had excellent meals at the Lightfoot. It's in an old bank and it's really beautiful. Also, I haven't been myself, but a friend of mine loves the Wine Kitchen (? I think that's what it's called).
  • thanks :) i think schydukes also mentioned lightfoot, will definitely look into it!

  • No personal experience, but Norris House has a friendly rivalry with Eiffel Tower Cafe across the street... you know... in a Brits vs. French sort of way. :) (Norris House was just written up in the Post... did you see it?)

  • My DH and I moved to Lburg about a year ago.  So far we've been to Lightfoot and the food is pretty good, but the service was only so-so.  We haven't checked out the Wine Kitchen, www.thewinekitchen.com/ yet, but I've heard good things about it too (and the reviews on Yelp are great, we will go when I'm not preggo anymore :)

When we do anniversary/birthday dinners we usually to go Tuscarora Mill, the food is amazing and the little area its in is cute, www.tuskies.com/  For lunches there is a pizza place where the Tuscarora Mill is, Fireworks Pizza, www.fireworkspizza.com/, that is delicious and a Mexican place, Los Tios, lostiosgrilllsb.vpweb.com/, both with outdoor seating.  Oh and there is a little cafe there too called South Street Under,www.southstreetunder.com/, that is good.  If you are wandering around downtown (there are a lot of cute little shops) I heard from a native Chicagoan that the hotdogs at Windy City Red Hots, www.windycityredhots.com/ are authentic and delicious.  During the day check out Lola's cookies for something sweet, www.lolacookies.com/.

For something a little lower-key we eat at the Blue Ridge Grill a lot.  It's behind the Sheetz, so not exactly picturesque :), but the food is very good, www.brgrill.com. There is a Thai place called Aiyara that is pretty good if you want Thai, www.aiyarathairestaurant.com/

Other places that I have on my list to try after new baby are Palio (Italian, downtown) www.palioofleesburg.com/, Travinia (Italian, near the Wegman's) www.traviniaitaliankitchen.com/travinia-leesburg-va.php, Vintage 50 www.vintage50.com/, The Cajun Experience (Louisiana homestyle) www.cajunexperience.biz/ and The Eiffel Tower Cafe, www.eiffeltowercafe.com/ (French I'm guessing :) if you want to check them out.

Stay far away from the string of restaurants on King Street, Bella Luna, Balls Bluff Tavern, Georgetown Cafe, Greentree Restaurant, etc.  They all share a kitchen and the food hasn't ever been spectacular.

Wow, that is super long, sorry and I'm really sorry I don't know how to do clickys. Hope it helps and give us a review when you get back!  Especially if you go to Lightfoot, I feel like maybe we should give it a second chance :)

  • ok, now i am insanely hungry because all the menus look delish!

  • We love Vintage 50.  Saturdays from 3-5 their beers are 2 bucks!  2 BUCKS!  We're there almost every weekend for one or two.  They have great food.  They have two sides, the bar/lounge side and then the more formal restaurant.  The food is great at both.

Fireworks is also a favorite.  Great selection of craft beers and excellent wood-fire pizza.  Next to them is Tuskies, also great (beer selection and food).  And across the street is Doner Bistro, which is definitely a lunch place, not fancy dinner, but oh my god it's delicious.  It's german sandwiches, the best fries I think I've ever had, and authentic german beer.  We take guests here for lunch, then walk to both Fireworks and Tuskies for a beer afterward.  It's a great little trio of places to get good drinks.

Those would be my top 4.  We haven't been to Lightfoot yet, so I can't say good or bad about them.  We went to the Wine Kitchen and the food was great, but we're more likely to indulgence in good beers than pricey wines, so we tend towards the other places.

  • I pretty much could have written what sarabean wrote. add Del Rio off on Market St. and China King on King St.  We've lived out here for the past 5 years

Haven 't check out the hot dog place yet.

Eiffel Tower was where my rehearsal dinner was (I got married at Birkby) and it is fabulous.

If you can drive it - Magnolia's in Purcellville is our other favorite restaurant.

  • Ditto to all the above!  Favorite non-splurge restaurant is Blue Ridge Grill. For special occasions: Tuscarora Mill, Lightfoot, Eiffel Tower.
