Nature's Miracle

Which stuff are you all using?  I bought a bottle at Petsmart - used the entire thing this weekend and..it didn't work. I am pretty sure the cats somehow peed on the carpet nail thingies in one area of the room and we will probably need to have those replaced.  But I am wondering if I bought the wrong stuff?  The carpet in the room is completely pulled up and the floor is bare. Argh!

Re: Nature's Miracle

  • Spray the concrete floor with bleach and let it dry completely. You have to get the smell out of the sub floor. You will likely need to replace the carpet pad, as it can be difficult to get it out of that. Otherwise, you could call a carpet cleaning service. And yes, you might have to replace baseboards, if they peed against the wall.

We had Stanley Steemer come out Saturday and clean the room Callie peed in. They injected the pad with the enzyme cleaner, but we might still need to replace it.

With NM, you might need to give it a few days, and keep spraying it with water to keep the enzymes alive. As soon as they dry out, they die and stop working.

Our final straw was to just re-floor, re-paint, and put in new baseboards in the cat room, and they no longer pee in there. They have, but not on a regular basis. Laminate is pretty easy to clean up.

Sorry you're having such a hard time! I'm right there with you.

  • I have taken out the carpet, the base, the pad - everything because we are having it all replaced this week.  And we are repainting. Maybe I will try bleach. Also, it is possible I haven't gotten all of it yet.  Naughty kitties!  There is just ONE SPOT that is the issue. I am not sure what they did there but it is nasty.

When I removed the carpet and pad on Saturday, I nearly barfed.  I had no idea how bad it was - sooo naughty!!!

The husband claims the room simply smells like paint but I am not sure....

  • If you aren't ever planning on putting in wood or laminate floors, you can always prime the floors with Kilz, but I think it takes away the option of any floating floors for some reason.

The bleach trick takes a few tries, and it will smell like ass. You might even get down and scrub with a floor brush (mask and gloves are not optional, you have to have them) and you'll be surprised how well it can work. I would keep the room closed off with an open window, if possible.

Also, make sure that you don't get any soap on the carpet after NM until the smell is totally gone, as steam cleaner solutions can kill the enzymes that might still be working.

    HTH!
