Favors

Do you think favors are necessary for a bridal shower?

If anything it'd be edible... since I haven't heard back from the other BMs on this shower, I'm thinking of nixing this idea to help cut down costs?

Re: Favors

  • I don't think they are necessary.  So many times they just get left behind and the hostess or guest of honor is stuck with a bunch of them.  For my sister's baby shower I just got a few small "prizes" and she drew names from everyone attending.  Another common idea is to have centerpieces that you can give away (flowers, candles, etc).

  • Not at all.  In fact, I usually throw away favors that I get at bridal showers (unless they involve candy, of course!).

    This.

    "You're the L and the V, I'm the O and the E...Am I speaking clearly?"
  • Agreed with PP that centerpieces as prizes are the best way to go.

Sidenote: The last shower I was at had homemade cookies on the table from the beginning of the shower till the end which I thought was very nice.  People at some in the beginning because they were hungry waiting for the girl to arrive, and some ate at the end for dessert.  No one noticed that there were no favors, and the women loved winning the centerpiece (it was a nice 8" colored vase with forsythia in it - which is a bonus if you like forsythia since you can plant a branch and it'll make a bush!) plus it was yellow which was a great Spring color for the shower.

    Nice! Love forsythia!!

I'm planning on experimenting with some edible centerpieces this weekend, so if those work, I couldn't really give them away. Lol. But we will do a few games and have some prizes/gift cards for those

Agreed on the cookies! It was done at both my showers and they had Chinese take out boxes for people to take some home as well.  Homemade cookies are cheap too :)

  • For the shower I threw a couple of months ago for my BFF, we didn't do favors. We did prizes for people who won the little games, but no favors. I just had little cellophane bags for people to take home any of the leftover goodies I had made.

Favors are totally not necessary.  I also agree with the some of the other ladies, that a lot of times they get left behind.  One of the favors they did for my bridal shower was small jars of homemade salsa and little bags of chips (because chips & salsa are one of my fav things to eat) and I still get comments about how yummy/creative it was.
