...that I haven't done a thing with my wedding dress since I put it back in the garment bag after the wedding almost 7 months ago? No cleaning, no preserving, nothing. I literally haven't even taken it out or looked at it. I've thought about doing a Rock/Trash the Dress, but I've put on a little weight since getting married and am not so sure it will fit right or that I even want photos to capture that gain. =P
So, I had taken a break from Nesting for a while because I was spending too much time here (even though I never really posted much), but now I would really like to know what you all did with your dresses and if you have any suggestions for me.
Thanks!

I'm no help...
I put the dress in the closet, forgot about it, then found the garment bag so I put it in there about 2 months ago.
And here we are now...
I want to get it preserved, but I don't like the idea that I can't open it unless I want to preserve it again.
Does anyone know if you can just get it cleaned and boxed up? What is the benefit of preservation?
As far as getting it preserved, the gown is wrapped (generally in acid-free tissue paper or unbleached muslin since plastic can cause permanent wrinkles and mildewing) and placed in an acid-free or pH-neutral box it will keep the dress from discoloration and moths.
As far as just getting it cleaned and box, the dry cleaner i was working for wouldn't do it, cause they send the dresses to a preservation company and they do it there so if your not getting it preserved (or paying the preserved price) they wont do it.
Ditto, except it's at my bedroom at my parents house.

I haven't done anything with mine either. It's at my parents' house in a closet since our house is small and doesn't really have room for something so big to be stored.
I know I need to do something with it.
And I also don't understand the benefits of preserving rather than dry cleaning (although I could probably figure it out if I thought about it long enough).
Really, I think I just don't want to spend the money...or the energy to take it somewhere!

Ironically my mom had hers "preserved" and when we opened it to get some lace off of it for my bouquet it had yellowed some. I'm not sure I believe that it truly "preserves" it. Though I guess it's possible whoever did my moms dress didn't know what they were doing.

Same for me! I really *should* take it to be drycleaned, but just don't want to spend the cash...
Same as Hannah. Mine is still covered in leaves at the bottom too.
Joni!!! My dear, I've missed you
I am also a member of the "haven't cleaned it, still hanging up, no idea what I'm gonna do with it" club. One of these days, I may have it cleaned and try and resell it. For now, it's just taking up space in my spare closet.

So like everybody else- mine is sitting in a our spare closet. Hasn't been cleaned either.
I really want to cut it and make it a tea dress for our one year anniversary party. But I don't want to fork out the money to get it cleaned or altered- and I'm scared to make it a tea dress myself. I've been waiting for a friend to come over and help me. lol.
Ditto. My veil is hanging right along with it. I have the garment bag, it is in a heap on the other guest bedroom floor. I want to do a TTD session but I have also gained weight and I think I would have to have a corset back put in to even get it to think about fitting again.

TTC Since January 2011 - We have bad spermWell, I guess I'm glad to know I'm not the only one! I was beginning to feel like I was letting way too much time pass and that all you 10-10ers would have your dresses clean and packed away by now. :-)
I have 3 pros on my side if I do a RTD/TTD session: my photog from the wedding is one of my best friends and would do a RTD/TTD for free. My hair is shorter now, so it's not like I have to have someone else style it for a photo shoot. If we wanted to include Felix, he actually wore a dark gray suit that he bought for the wedding and could wear it again if he didn't want to go casual.
The idea about having it remade into a different dress is interesting and might merit further consideration!
Thanks for all the input, ladies. (And Brooke, I've missed you too!) :-)
