Re: Why do people do this?
I've never understood why people do this. I know it must be hard with her husband overseas and all but what in the world was going through her mind.
PS my cousin grew up in Kennedale! My aunt always talked about the small town gossip lol!
I definitely ask the question of why would she do this but I also ask why 5 DIFFERENT students would have sex with their teachers?
I will probably be flamed for this but I think it's a two way street and that if those boys were 18 years old they are just as responsible as she is for what happened...
flame away....
Um, ew.
As far as the "why" though, especially since this seems to be so common... I would say that its a trophy for the students and the adults put themselves in a compromising situation which allows it to happen. (i.e. flirtation, meeting alone or outside of school, etc.)
These students were over 18. I would say it is not much different than how people get involved with co-workers/subordinates.
I still think it is gross, but I could see how it could happen. Now with adults and younger kids, yuck, I can't explain that.
I will slightly agree with you here! The boys were "adults" and are responsible also. The teacher should have known better than to invite them to her house for "extracurricular" activities but the boys should not have gone!
It's really just disappointing on the part of all parties involved. Disappointing and gross. I feel really bad for her poor husband.
I don't think she should have criminal charges pressed, they were consenting 18 year old adults. Fired from her job, yes, but not made into a sex offender.
This, exactly. I can't explain the thinking (from either side) that led to this, but I don't think it should be a legal matter since they boys were all adults.
When I first started teaching, I was 5 years older than my oldest students. Age wise, it's not necessarily much of a stretch.
If they were not her students, then I kind of agree that she shouldn't be facing any charges but, if they were her students, then there's a law for that.
I haven't read the article above but I heard this morning that she threw them a party.....?
Julie, I think I heard/read that also but I don't know how true it is.
I don't know if what they are charging her with will lead to a sex offender status or not but like Julie said, having sex with students is illegal in Texas no matter the age.
