so . . . what does a UTI feel like?

Because I think I might have one. My bladder kind of hurts (?) almost like it's too full, except it's not . . .

Re: so . . . what does a UTI feel like?

  • It hurts to pee and you only pee a tiny bit and feel like you have to go every 2 minutes..... Go see a Dr if you think and eat cranberries in the mean time... Feel better
  • when i used to get them it was feeling like you had to go all.the.time even when you would only pee like 3 drops... and the best one, burning while urinating.

but i also heard that there are tons of people who have them and don't know (esp when pg) so i wonder if there are other symptoms out there?

I think cvs sells some test strip and an OTC med that you can take to lessen the symptoms until you get to a doc. i used to take uristat but i don't think they sell that any longer.. whatever it is it should be near the yeast infection stuff.

hope you don't have one! :(

  • In addition to what those above have said, you may also find yourself sitting on the toilet all night, crying in pain as you pee out two drops which have blood in them, cursing the fact that you ever had sex, as your H sleeps soundly in your bed.

Though, they will present differently in different people, so best to see a doctor if you suspect you have one.

Oh, totally. I may or may not have an H who claims to be a light sleeper, but has slept through a nearby house exploding, last summer's earthquake, many a thunderstorm, and the alarm on a regular basis.

  • i had no symptoms until there was severe pain in my kidneys/lower back by which point it was almost a full-blown kidney infection. definitely get to a doctor and pick up some craberry juice.

They make a vitamin-type cranberry extract pill that is awesome - all the enzyme-y goodness of cranberries without the calories.  It makes you want to pee just as if you drank the juice!

GNC or anyplace that has a large selection of vitamins should carry it.

Hope you are feeling better soon!

Ditto this, except my UTI DID turn into a full blown kidney infection and I spent 3 days in the hospital. Go to the doctor and save yourself that pure hell.

  • I've had them with no symptoms and had them with what pp described and also with a little bit of blood.  G/L.  When in doubt, call your doctor.

I think we have the same H.

  • I used to deal with these all the time and I blamed it on H. God Bless him for that, because it turns out I kept getting them due to my diet. I had way to much yeast in my system from sugars, processed foods, and all the junk I fed myself. My body finally went haywire. The last straw was when I got on my "regular" antibiotics  during my last bout, and it didn't help. Then I went through another week on a different antibiotics which weren't helping either. Then the Dr. said that my culture came back normal with no bacteria, all the while I was still in severe pain!

I came across a number of articles and sites on candida when googling to figure out what the cause could be, so I put myself on a candida cleanse. The pain was motivation enough to just start eating clean, no carbs, sugars, wheat, molds (cheeses), dairies...basically no food :) It's been 4 months now and I haven't had a single UTI, yeast infection, anything, since then. I used to have "something" of the sort happen almost every month around "that time". Oh, and dropping 30 lbs was also a great bonus.

It doesn't seem like you get these a lot so the above suggestions are great, but for anyone who answered who has had to deal with it more than a number of times then you may be interested in looking up "anti-candida diet". I swear by it!

  • I get them.  In addition to the symptoms listed above, your pee can look cloudy or smell.  Antibiotics is the only way I can treat them.  But I take a cranberry supplement from Whole Foods every day to help prevent them, and that seems to help.  But once you have one, just do yourself a favor and go to a doctor. They don't just go away with time.
