hey! I thought my reply might get lost below...
I'm not feeling anything yet...I don't expect to til more like 20 weeks based on what my doctor said and what many of my first-time-mom friends have said. I think for the first pregnancy it is later, but sometimes I've heard that for the 2nd pregnancy you know what to "watch" for and you feel it sooner.
I have been paying lots of attention but have not felt a thing yet, not even gas that I could mistake for movement!
How are you doing? When is your anatomy scan? Are you guys going to find out the sex?
Re: Jules, BR
I just came back to check your post
Yeah, I've had friends who have felt movement at all different times. My OB mentioned that my uterus sits much higher than the average woman's so that I would probably start showing sooner than average (pretty sure that was true) and might be able to feel movement sooner than later depending on the location of the placenta. I thought I felt something a few days ago, but I haven't felt it since. I have never felt anything like that before, it felt like a fish swimming against the inside of my lower abdomen or like a snake slithering along. I probably made it up in my head, but it did make me stop and go hmm?
I am doing well! Finally have some energy coming back! I still get tired at night but the days are much better! My back has been starting to hurt though. I think that's just from doing a lot over the weekend (I hope).
Our anatomy scan is scheduled for June 20th. My OB likes to wait until the 20 week mark and I will be 20 weeks, 3 days. I am getting antsy! We are going to find out. I think I could go without, but Matt wants to know and since i know we can find out at that appointment I am really wanting to know. I think because I want to give the baby a name!
Yeah, I have felt nothing. My uterus is not right below my belly button - I can feel the top of it if I press down. It is pushing all my guts/fat up and out, so I have like this weird fat belly, but not a real bump yet. People at work give me the side eye, probably because they just think I'm getting fat and it's not like I have told all 400 people at my company that I'm pregnant.
I had thought they'd wait til 20 full weeks (b/c I've heard the view is better) but my OB said 18 weeks was great, so we scheduled it for June 3rd, I will be 19 weeks 1 day actually, so it's a middle ground. I am excited because we head to VT that night to spend the weekend with my family and we can tell them the sex in person - we told my ILs about the pregnancy in person, but told my parents on the phone, so this will be nice.
We have not even talked about names yet, and will likely just have a short list until we see the little one. Also up in the air is my 1st cousin due end of Sept (not sure what she is having or if she's finding out but she already "claimed" my grandmother's name if she has a girl) and BIL and SIL due June 3rd having a boy but keeping name options a secret. So once we find out we'll make a list, then we'll cross things off the list as other babies closely related are named!
I'm also thinking once we find out we will register for some stuff. So much to think about...
Haha, I love your description! Being able to feel your uterus is so weird! I couldn't tell if it was just fat / bloat or an actual bump, but it gets pretty hard and when I lay on my stomach it feels like I am laying on a volleyball now.
Ah I am jealous that you get to have yours soon! I am so excited for you to find out!! That's really cool that you'll get to tell your parents in person too. They'll love that!
We had to tell my parents over the phone too and i would have to wait until august to tell them the gender in person so that won't happen. I am thinking that I will contact a neighbor / friend of theirs and see if I can mail her the stuff to make a cake and then call her that day to tell her what color to make the inside (pink or blue) and then drop it off at my parents house that night for me and have my dad cut into it as another Father's day thing (We find out the day after fathers day) ... still working on that idea though.
Oh that's always fun when people claim names and make it well known that you can't use it or whatever. Sounds like you have a good plan for how to go about it though.
As far as registering goes, it's the same for us. Once we find out, then we'll go through everything we've been given and then start registering for what we still need.
