Does anyone have a recipe they care to share with this Irish girl? Even though MIL is Italian, she uses jar sauce all the time!!!! She is a horrible cook!!!! Thanks ladies!
Re: s/o Sauce...
Few table spoons of olive oil in a pot, put on medium-high heat. I drop in a whole red onion diced and let it simmer until clear. I add two or three diced cloves of garlic and let simmer for 2 mins, Add one big can of cento suace.. or hunts or whatever brand of plain tomato puree you would like.
To it I add a bunch of things, but only to taste, never measured out
Red wine, pepper, salt, crushed red pepper, basil, oregano, parmesan cheese, parsley. If it is too salty, I add a little sugar. MMMMMmmmm
my read shelf:
This! and...I chop black olives, kalamata olives and turkey pepperoni as well and throw that in before I add the sauce. So yummy.
Mine is similiar to Lilac"s
Olive oil in a large pot, throw in chopped garlic, and half an onion (whatever you have). Sweat them. Then add a small can of tomato paste. Cook a few minutes
Then I add 3 large cans of Crushed tomatoes (any brand) or whatever I have on hand.......tomato sauce, whole tomatoes, etc.
I season by eye with garlic, onion, basil, oregano powder. Then I also add 3 bay leaves (something my mom does, idk why...lol) I bring to a boil then lower the heat and cook ALL DAY! The longer it cooks the better it tastes.
I just made a pot yesterday and I baked some meatballs (for about 30 minutes) and threw them in the sauce also!
I also will freeze a jar of sauce each time I make a batch and then add that to the next one. And I actually realized I forgot to do that yesterday
woops
