Need Suggestions-Which Electric Company to Choose?

Hi Austin Nesties!

My husband and I are moving to Austin near the end of June. We were given a huge list of electric companies to choose from.  This is new for us because in St. Louis, you dont have a choice.  Who do you like or who do you not like?

Thanks for your help!

It depends on where you are living what your choices are, if any.  I'm pretty sure most of Austin has to use Austin Energy (or so I thought and I did).  I live in Pflugerville just north of Austin now and we have S t a r Te x P o w e r.  We have renewed our contract with them 3 times already and they have been the cheapest to find and we have had no problems what so ever with them.

You can also go to www.powertochoose.org and compare companies based on your area which may help with your decision.

  • Hopefully you can use Austin Energy, as PP said. It's cheaper than buying your electricity on the open market -- we lived in Waco for a few years where we had to find a company on our own, and even the cheapest was still almost twice the cost per kw/h of what we were paying Austin Energy. Deregulation was such a scam!
  • We just renewed our contract with Ambit Energy.  We really liked them and we pay about half of what I was paying in a smaller apartment (with the air almost always off) through TXU...
