Question about Nannies?

Hi,

I usually lurk around here, but I have a question today. I searched few pages back and didn't see anything, so I figure I should ask.

I'm looking into hiring a live-out nanny for full time child care. I've been searching at a ton of websites, but I don't know if that's the best way to find a good nanny.

Do you know of any places or good on-line resources to help me find a great nanny? Maybe something like MD Childcare for nannies?

TIA!

  • Angies List. to find anything from Nannys to gardners. it is seriously worth the money and we found our inspector from there awhile we were house hunting.

    Best of Luck to you.

I wish I was still a nanny, its a great job.

  • Post this on the Baltimore Babies Bump board.

I think I've seen some information over there.

  • Couple questions. How many children? What are the ages? Are you looking for just a nanny that would be one on one with the child(ren) or would you rather an environment with other children where he/she/they will gain social skills? Also what area are you looking for?

We are looking to do nanny sharing for a 10 and a 6 week old. It will be in my home and the nanny will come and spend the day with both kids. I live near Arundel Mills Mall.

  • Unfortunately i don't know of any nannies personally. If you do a google seach for baltimore nannies a few websites come up. I am not sure how reliable they are. I got lucky and found my daughters daycare through her pre-k teacher last year. I would definitely ask around personally to anyone you know that has kids or knows of someone that has kids. I would also try to find someone who has a child care license. You can then take the license number and call up your local child care services and give them the number and they should be able to tell you if there have been any complaints made on the person. I can tell you from experience i would definitely do this. The previous person that was watching my daughter supposedly had her license. I picked my DD up one day and she told me that the lady hit her! Her little friend from daycare verified it on his own with his parents just asking vague questions. Nothing was said to him that we had been told or anything. So of course i confronted the woman and she said she didnt. Well my friend and I called the child services people and found out that this womans license has been suspended and she had also had previous complaints against her. I definitely did my research for the next provider and was extremely picky. I am really glad i picked her teachers friend though. She has been a total blessing and i couldn't be happier with her. So i would definitely do you research when you find any names you are interested in checking out. Good luck and sorry i couldn't help more.

  • I was a nanny and found both of my families through Care.com.  You can browse profiles of nannies for free and then there's a small membership fee if you want to contact any of them (I'd say around $20-$30).

Ditto this. I also had good luck with Sittercity.com.
