What sunscreen do you use for your little ones? And at what age is it safe to use on a baby? Also, I'd love to get P a good sun hat, any recs? I was thinking of picking up an iPlay hat, I like that it has such great coverage for the face and neck. Poor guy was blessed with his mom's pale complexion, so I fear that he will burn easy!
We're heading down to the Ozarks next month, so I want to make sure I cover all my bases and am prepared for the little guys' first trip to the lake! Can you tell I'm preparing for our summer swim time??

Our pedi said they should be 6 months old before you put them in the sun or sunblock/sunscreen on them.
We got a hat from Target that did well for that age.
When are you going? I'll be down in 2wks and then again the second weekend in June. My family lives down there, where do you stay? LOL I LOVE the lake!
My pediatrician tries to follow the the six month rule, however, she said if we were going to be out in the sun using sunscreen early was a heck of a lot better than not using anything. Sophia was roughly 4 months when we started using sunscreen on her. We just use the Target version of Water Babies. I know a lot of people try to avoid the chemicals and will only use sunBLOCK, but I don't feel that strongly about it. We have gotten all her swim hats from Target and they work well. We were there last week and they had some very cute rash guard type suits for little boys with tops and shorts and a matching hat. I believe they offered UV protection as well.
ETA: Just remember to avoid putting sunscreen on his hands and feet if he is big on sucking on them.
I use california baby, burts bees, or earths best sunblock. Since it covers so much of their body it puts my mind at ease to use a more natural product. Especially with a young one. I will occasionally use neutrogena spray block on Katen though because she's a little older and... fast. She gets cali baby on her face though.
I believe the new APA recommendation is any time after 2 mos as needed and washed off after the sun exposure, and then liberally after 6 mos.
We use coppertone sunscreen with zinc oxide in it. We are always in the sun in Hawaii so I put it on really thick. My girls have a little bit of a tan now, but they are still pretty pale compared to the other kids here.
