I was just reading about this on PC&E. I'd like to say I'm surprised, but I'm really not.
I guess in the Kennedy/Shriver family, they probably give out a manual for how to deal with marital infidelity as a standard wedding present. But man, I am not classy enough to keep something like that under my hat for the sake of my H's career. F*ck that. I'd buy a few hundred billboards and tell everyone what a douchebag he is.
Seriously! DH and I had a conversation early on in our relationship that the one thing we both could not tolerate is cheating. If you want to be with me then be with me. If not, divorce me and be with someone else.

The timing of this seems sketchy - the kid has been in existence since before he was governor. Did Maria just find out? If so, whoa, I would be out for blood. If not, wow, ditto bh2720 that I would not be able to keep it under wraps for the sake of politics.
I've said before that a politician's sex life isn't relevant as much as his/her performance in office. That being said, I don't think everyone in California feels that way. There are probably some livid people there today!
I am so not surprised. Not only did he cheat on her - bad enough - but he kept it from her for a decade to save his political career. And that poor 10 y.o. kid!
So she only found out recently? I was wondering when she suspected/knew.
Like pp said, she's a Ken. and women sucking it up and dealing with affairs for the sake of the political career seems to almost be the norm, but man! Although honestly, who here is really surprised that he turned out to be a womanizing, cheating douche?
Either way, it's awful for her, their kids and the poor 10 year-old.

Yeah, I don't think she found out until just recently - that's why she moved out. And he's been supporting the kid, too! Yeee-owch. I wonder how they broke this story - I feel bad for their four, you know, in-wedlock kids.

Maria is one strong lady to have up and left with their four kids, once she learned of it (I got the impression she just learned about it earlier this year, and immediately moved out). Her family may have had some crap in the past, but she didn't put up with it.

Wouldn't the Kennedy guide book be about how to have affairs and convince your wife to stay mum for the sake of your career? I don't see it as common to have one of the esteemed Kennedy clan be the one cheated on.
All snark aside, I feel so bad for her, and it's no wonder she up and left him if he kept this from her from a decade just to make sure it didn't get out. She's a strong woman who put aside her career in journalism for the sake of his political career. She shouldn't have to put aside her whole sense of self so he can do whatever the heck he wants.
Exactly. I've lost all respect for him.

Did you have respect for him before this story broke? When he was running for governor, 16 women spoke out about his assaulting them in some manner.
I'm surprised Maria stayed with him. I would have packed up and left back then.
Ok, I will admit that I don't know much about him, and I had not heard any of that. Guess that changes my perspective and teaches me not to open my mouth when I don't know all of the details!

No hard feelings, I just felt silly for not knowing his past! You're right about the media being quick to forget... except I don't think they'll be quick to forget this one.
