vent re: gardening equipment

OMG I feel like I am getting cancer every time I step outside. WHY is it that everyone has to use gardening services that use ride-on mowers, leaf blowers (for grass clippings...REALLY??) and various other equipment that spews toxic crap into MY air?

Not to mention the noise is super annoying. It goes on every day in my neighborhood. Someone is always having their lawn cut or trees trimmed or whatever. (Nope, they don't do it themselves. Although many are elderly so I understand somewhat.) Ugh. When we moved in here we bought a push mower (as in no gas, no motor) for our property, which is mostly grass and over a 1/3 of an acre. It's not that hard! Sheesh! Save the earth people.

That is all.

Re: vent re: gardening equipment

  • The guy across the street has a service come and mow his lawn, it confuses me. He shovels and rakes leaves himself...

There is no way I wouldn't have a motorized mower. Sorry mother earth. I'm too lazy.

  • I feel like our maintenance department does their yard work every single day right outside my window.  I always hear a non-stop buzzing.

I am not trying to start drama, but what are your qualifications for using such equiment?  How would you suggest that trim my huge trees w/trunks double the size of me seeing I am not qualified to do so?  I could push mow my huge yard I guess (almost 1 acre), however I cherish my time way too much for that and will use my rider.  Is it Earth friendly, no...howevever my back thanks me for it.

    Confused

Some of us and our spouses work 60-70 hour weeks and on the weekends and need a lawn service.

Would you rather I mowed my lawn at 10pm at night? Or not have the grass cut at all? Then you'd probably be complaining about my unkept yard.

Also, if you're going to get cancer it's probably not from breathing gas 20 minutes a day from fumes in your neighborhood. It's going to be from living under large powerlines, plastic chemicals leaking into your water and food, genetics and poor diet.

That, or the extra time you spend outside in the sun pushing your mower.

  • Also, people are cutting their grass quite often right now due to all the rain.  It will slow down during the summer assuming we have a dry summer.

  • If the grass clippings stay on the grass and the sun comes out = fried lawn.  DH uses a leaf blower for grass clippings and a motorized lawn mower.  Oh and a weed wacker.

When you start a post with snark you have to expect to get it back.

ETA: and i honestly don't think there is that much snark in here. you said your feelings and people replied with theirs. just because they didn't agree with you it is snarky?

It isn't snark.  You said something that no one else agrees with and now you are pouting about it because we all voiced our disagreement.
