HS Reunion--Did you go?

My 10 year high school reunion is in October. I am debating about whether or not I want to go. DH really doesn't (we went to high school together) but I am more ambivalent. On the one hand, $60 is a lot to pay for an appetizer, dinner and one glass of wine or beer. Especially when you are paying for two people! I can think of a lot of things I could spend $120 on. On the other hand, there are some people I definitely would like to see. If they come.

So, did you go to your reunion? Why or why not? If you didn't go, did you regret it later?

Re: HS Reunion--Did you go?

  • So, did you go to your reunion? No

Why or why not? DH (still FI at the time) was in the hospital having surgery. I had been on the fence about going even before that since it was $50 and I would have to travel home. I was already in contact with some friends and after that milestone a lot more people got in touch.

If you didn't go, did you regret it later? Not really but there were 2 people that I haven't seen in person for several years because they now live out of state. But I'm sure we'll meet up sometime. I probably will go to my 20th. This year marks 15 for me now! Surprise

  • My 10 year is in September. I believe we are going. Mostly because the family of one of the guys in our class owns a restaurant in my hometown so we are getting an AWESOME deal on it, so our tickets are $30 a person. We had a very small graduating class so I am kind of looking forward to catching up with some people, more than just what is posted on Facebook.

  • I'm in the same boat right now... except our 10th high school reunion (for me and DH too since we also went to high school together and graduated the same year!) is in about a month. It's $50 a person but we only get one drink and appetizers - no full dinner.

I thought about it for a long time and decided that A) There are lot of other things I'd rather do with $100, and B) The people I really care about from high school I already keep in touch with. I don't think I'm really going to miss anything.

Unless you know for sure that the people you want to see are going to come, I wouldn't spend that kind of money. I really don't know why these events cost so much money...

  • Huz's is this year. He's not going. He's arrested too many people from his class to be able to go lol.

Mine is next year. I won't go. Anyone that I have an interest in talking to, I already do (Facebook, texting, email), so I don't really feel like I want to go.

  • Mine was actually just in March, even though it should have been last fall. I didn't go...1. Because dh was so not into it and I drag him to too many things to force him to go. 2. Not too many people out of my group of friends were going. And 3. The dance team I run had a hig rehearsal for an upcoming competition. I figured there were better ways to blow $120 and if I really wanted to catch up with anyone, there's always Facebook. Maybe I'll go to my 20 year one.

  • Yes, I went.  It was nice to see people I hadn't seen in awhile, and it was nice to introduce my H to everyone.  I'm glad I went.

  • Mine won't be for a few years and neither will DH's and more likely than not we will not go to either. We went to the same school and graduated a year apart. We still visit our home town a lot because our parents live there and sadly most of both our classmates still do, some are doing well some not so much. So we see the people we want to see already so we will not be spending arms and legs to go.

  • No. I don't regret it.

  • I went to mine and had a great time. The cost seems a little high, but I really enjoyed it and wished I had more time with everyone.
  • did you go to your reunion? yes even  though i only went there for 2 years ( i spent my first 2 yrs of hs in phila, pa - the 2nd 2 were in ca) - this was my 10th yr reunion, i have my 20th next year Indifferent

Why or why not? i went mostly b/c it was close (WC and i was living in Clayton) and i wanted to catch up w/ some people that i hadn't seen in forever.

If you didn't go, did you regret it later?  n/a

  • I didn't go to mine because I wasn't invited because I dropped out of high school.  I wish I would have gone to show people that even though I dropped out I went to college and am not applying for grad school, biotches.  Yeah, high school was a bad experience for me.

  • I did not go to my 10 yr reunion, and I didn't regret it.  Friends that went said it was a lot like a job interview with everyone just sizing up everyone else.

I might go to the 20yr, we'll see.

We went to DH's 20yr reunion a couple of years ago and I think he had a good time catching up with people.

    HA! That is funny Moosie

I agree with the second statement. My 20 yr reunion will be in 3 yrs and I refuse to go and spend $$.

Overall HS sucked for me as I was picked on a lot (until I met DH) so I rather not converse with ppl from HS who were mean to me.

  • I did go. My best friend made me. I'm glad she did. I would have wondered what happened and what people were like. I must say it was a great boost to my ego because I'm significantly smaller than I was in high school and people had no clue who I was. That felt great!

i went to my 10 yr, but only because my mom offered to pay for the ticket, since it was back east.  otherwise i wouldn't have gone but i am glad that i did.  it was a lot of fun. i didn't go to my 20 yr because it was over thanksgiving weekend.  i would have enjoyed going but it's too expensive to fly over thxgiving.

  • I also must say, I ended up having a long conversation with a girl that I NEVER thought I would even speak to at my reunion. It was nice to go back and see that people (ok some) had grown up and to see where they are in their lives and what they were up to. I left my reunion with a new respect for some of the people in high school that I didn't want anything to do with.

what is it w/ east coast hs and thanksgiving weekend for reunions ?!? i was invited to my phila hs's 15th reunion but declined since there was NO way i'd be making the trek out east into the cold THAT weekend.

Maybe they think that since it's a holiday weekend, a lot of people are already traveling "home" (even though it's not home for some people anymore) so it would actually save them a trip?

  • I went to my 10.  Probably wouldn't have but I rekindled a high school friendship slightly before and we went together.  It was interesting.  I'm glad I went but wouldn't have been totally bummed if I'd missed it.  20's next year and I haven't heard any plans and don't think I'd make a special trip for it.
  • We did not go to mine.

I had absolutely no desire to go to mine.  Part of the reason was I hated HS and I didnt want to see most of the people again.  Second was everyone I did like didnt go.  Third was that I had a graduating class of 544 people...at a school of 3,000.  I don't know 90% of the people I went to school with.

    No regrets.

We sorta went to DH's 10 year, his happens to fall on the annual every 5 year massive weekend event one.  So we will hit up his 15 too...this year (or is it next? I lose track of time).  Every 5 years his school does a big huge event weekend for ALL alum...so guys who graduated 50 years ago come.  They have a big tailgate kick off at a football game and then the weekend is full of brunches, lunches, golf tourneys, and dinners.  So we usually hit up the tailgate, DH does the golf, and then we skip everything else so we can hang out with his friends who come to town to do the same stuff.  It is fun.

  • I did not go to my 5 or 10 yr reunion. At my 5 yr, I was 8 months pregnant and unmarried. I went to a Catholic school and did not want to be judged by them. My 10 year was 3 weeks after we got married so we chose not to go. My 15 is coming up this fall and I am not going mainly because it is in NC and would cost too much to go.
  • I hope I don't make anyone feel old but I haven't had mine yet. It's not until 2013 but I plan on going. We had a really tight knit senior class and it will be nice to see the girls I cheered with. I keep in touch on Facebook but that's about the extent right now. Some of the senior classes have been combining their reunions. I think 2000 and 2001 had a combined reunion or at least they talked about it. H doesn't want to go to his (we graduated the same year just different schools).

  • Did I go - nope, had no desire to attend a 5 year or 10 year and have no desire to go to a 15 year, which is this year (I don't even know if they are doing anything).

DH went to regular HS and then finished at continuation school so no reunion there.
