Tip for a free cake??

My husband and I just celebrated our 1st Anniversary.  We got our wedding cake from Buttercream and they give you a complimentary cake on you 1st Anniversary.  Should I tip when I go pick up my free cake?

 Thanks!

Re: Tip for a free cake??

  • I got ours there as well for free and did not tip. Though guess I never even thought of it, now I'm curious what others did!

  • I didn't go there but I think I'd tip anyway. It's a nice gesture that they offer you a cake on your Wedding Anniversary. It takes time, effort and ingredients to make that cake.

(Even though I'm sure you feel like you paid enough for the cake on your Wedding Day!)

  • I didn't tip for our free cake, but we go back every year for our anniversary cake.

  • You already paid for that cake, and it isn't like they are performing a service (cutting, serving, etc.)  So no, I wouldn't tip

(If you allow them to serve the top tier of your cake instead of saving it, they prepare a free one for you on your one-year anniversary.  They come out ahead, because I am sure 50% of people don't go back for their 'free' cake.)

  • I am sure that they take the freek cake into account when they give you the inital price quote.  I wouldn't worry about a tip but I would try to give them repeat business if I was happy with them.
