Does any one have any tips for getting rid of spiders? We have a ton at our house, and every time I use the spray we bought, it makes me cough really bad. I hate stomping on them because I don't enjoy cleaning the corpse off my shoe.
Any tips for preventing them?
Re: spiders
You need a cat. I hardly ever see bugs anymore
.
Besides that, have you tried spraying the outdoor perimeter of your house to keep them from coming in?
Waiting to meet the baby broccoli on 5/5/2013!
Sorry this is long..I wanted to be thorough.
Its hard to say if this helps generally, since I did this almost right after we moved in, but I see HARDLY any spiders all year-round.
I bought the Max Defense indoor/outdoor (important: make sure its safe indoors and for pets) spider/bug spray by the big bottle that has the long spray head at Target for just about $10 i believe..maybe a few $$ more. It lasts a while. I walked the WHOLE perimeter of the house and sprayed around the bottom two feet of the house, then around the garage door, all over the outside of the house leading up to the door, around the whole door inside and outside, around every window/opening to the house, and around the whole deck. I also sprayed the lawn furnature because I HATE being surprised by a spider when you're relaxing outside. Then, i sprayed the baseboards in areas I would typically see spiders (bathroom, kitchen), anywhere that is a good place for a spider to live, like under cabinets or holes, around the fireplace because it leads outside by the vent, around each of the heating/air vents around the house, and anywhere else I wanted to. Then I keep the bottle (i have a small one for inside) under the sink in the kitchen in case I see a spider inside I spray it and they die instantly, no mess, and you know that no other spider will go there again since the spray is there haha. I also spot spray outside if there is an area frequented by spiders.
The spray doesnt smell Too bad, and you do it once and then it lasts for i think 6-9 months. I do this every spring, and like I said, I dont see many spiders AT ALL. To give a good example, I probably see one every month or few months...seriously. We may also live in an area that doesnt have many bugs, but there are a lot of trees around us and a lot of spiders outside..so I dont think that's the case.
We can't have dogs or cats, because DH is allergic to them.
I'm more concerned with my own safety than anything. The spray I've been using makes me cough really bad.
In our area, everyone swears by monkey balls (orange fruit). The funny thing is, I don't know what they grow on, because we just get them on the side of the road, LoL. So maybe this post isn't as informative as I'd hoped :
Those look like they might be walnuts. Have you ever opened one?
Also to note, all the spraying in the world won't help the ones that come in from the top of your house. I.e. the ones who 'ride the wind' on web "parachutes" (usually babies) they'll come into from the attic areas, start a family and maybe come for a visit at some point to the main living area you are in.
