10. A year ago at this time we were in Disney World and I would love to be back there right now!

I hear ya.  We were just there in December, and it already feels so much longer ago than 6 months.  It's sad to think that we probably won't be back for another couple years.

Where did you stay when you were there? Did you stay on-site? How long were you there? Did you opt for the dining plan? Let's discuss. (Although I'm not sure this discussion will help diminish the desire for either of us to go back....lol)

Re: **sarah1017**

  • I know what you mean about being sad for not going for a few years - we decided last year we probably wouldn't go back until we had kids!

We stayed at the Port Orleans French Quarter - we absolutely loved the hotel! We were there for a week, and we bought the park hopper pass which worked out nicely because we could do one park during the day, then go to another park at night for dinner and the night shows (I love all the night things - like Fantasmic, Spectromagic, Illuminations) We didn't opt for the dining plan - have you used it before? How did it work out?

Okay, yeah, now I totally want to plan another trip there! haha

I've never been at Christmastime, what were the parks like then? I bet it was so fun and festive!!

We stayed at Port Orleans-Riverside on our most recent trip, and we loved it! Although I stayed at the French Quarter on a trip with my family once and we liked that too.  I actually think that of all the resorts I've stayed at there, the Port Orleans complex has been my favorite for the cost.  I honestly even liked it better than the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian, simply because it's less crowded and the cost is so much more affordable.

We always get the park hopper pass as well and I agree that it's completely worth it.  The night shows are the best!! Illuminations and Fantasmic are the best.  I think the Magic Kingdom's fireworks are called "Wishes" and those were cool too, but obviously not as much of a show as the other too.

We've gotten the dining plan the last few times we've been there, and it's always been worth it for us.  I will say that for certain people it may not be worth it.  For each day of your trip (doesn't necessarily have to be used each day though, you can save them up) each person gets a snack, a counter service meal, and a table service meal. The meals include drinks, entrees, and desserts.  We saved all our receipts from the meals and did the math, and in essence buying the dining plan is like paying outright for your dinner meal and snack, but getting a free counter service meal each day.  We feel it's worth it because instead of trying to order the least expensive thing on the menu to save money, you're trying to find the most expensive thing on the menu just because you can! lol

  • Yeah, I really enjoyed the convenience of the Port Orleans complex and the bus system worked pretty well there too. The only other place I have stayed on site is the Beach Club resort and that was like 10 years ago with my family - it was really nice too!

Wow - the meal plan definitely sounds like it would be worth it. We went planning to eat like light snacks, or quick meals for lunch and of course were a little sticker shocked when a hot dog was like $7 haha.

We rented DVC points and are staying at Old Key West.  We tried to get something on the Boardwalk, but it is all sold out.  We are going for the Halloween Party and the Food and Wine Festival.  It will be awesome.  If we couldn't rent points then we would have stayed at POFQ.  It is our favorite resort.  We saved a ton of money renting though.

I just realized I forgot to answer this question Sarah. Sorry.

This past time we were there from December 12th-19th, so it was the week before Christmas.  It was considered Value Season, so we got great prices even though the week after that starts the peak holiday season.  I honestly think it's a great time to go.  The crowds are relatively light, compared to more busy times of the year.  I think the the longest we ever waited in line was about 35 minutes.  All of the parks, resorts, etc. are decorated for Christmas and in true Disney style, they go over the top.  It's incredible!  They have a lot of extra fun Christmas parades and shows as well.  I have two albums on FB that show a lot of the Christmas decorations, etc. if you want to check them out.

The only potential negative for some people at this time of year is the weather.  While we've been before at this time of year and had no problem with cooler temperatures, the last time we were there it was pretty cold and windy.  We've been around this time two times prior though and the weather was always in the mid 60's to low 70's.  It's always a gamble with the weather!

  • I love Disney at Christmas.  We were there for Thanksgiving in 2009 and it was all ready for Christmas.  I wanted to go back there at that time this year, but DH wanted to go for Halloween. :(

  • Oh wow - both Christmas and Halloween sound like a fun time at Disney!

I've only been in the spring and summer before, and even then - the weather can be unpredictable. We went in April one year when I was younger and it was seriously 45 and rainy the entire week.

And Ritzy, I'll probably spend my afternoon at work looking at your Disney photos now!
