IUD question

Okay so I've had my IUD for a couple of months now and I've had my period (light/heavy/spotting) in some shape or form since I got it put in.... is my period ever going to quit?  i'm okay with getting a period but not having it for months nonstop.

any thoughts?

Re: IUD question

  • Give it a little more time. When I first got mine, I had a period for 3mths! :) It was FUN! NOT!

Now I just get a regular P! AND I hate it!

  • I would call your Gyn.. I don't think you should be bleeding for that long. I'm sure everyone's body reacts differently but that is a LONG time to have that going on..

  • I don't know about IUD's- just wanted to say that I feel for you.  Periods nonstop suck!!!

  • Did you get the Mirena?  I had spotting for about 3-4 weeks on and off.  I have had one period since and I've had it in since August or September.

  • I just talked to my doctor about getting an IUD yesterday. She said irregular periods/spotting can happen for up to 6 months.

  • I didn't have anything with my first one, but have had quite a bit of spotting and bleeding this time around.  They said it's normal for the first 6 months, then it should get better.  I think if you hang in there it will be worth it!

  • Kristin- yes the mirena.  Thanks everyone.  I called and they said what you all said- it's normal for up to 6 months.  This may be TMI but its really interfering with my sex life.  =)

UM I feel ya on that one! :(

  • I got mine in September and had some off/on spotting for 6 weeks. That was it until last Tuesday when I got it pulled - my NP and I think that may have contributed to my 40+ pound weight gain over the past 6 months.

WHAT WERE YOU ON? sorry cap lock :(

  • Mirena and Zoloft. Yanked the Mirena and started Beyaz alond with Celexa rather than Zoloft.

  • A tip for the sex life bit?have you ever tried the softcup?  It's made by a company called Instead and is supposed to be alternate period protection that you can leave in during sex.  Some people find removal a little messy, but I've used them before and if you do it right, it really isn't that bad.  Worth a try during your 6 month break-in period.
