Extra bed linen storage

Where/how do you store your extra linens (sheets, comforters, pillow cases)?  And how do you keep them fresh?  Or do you only have one set per bed to avoid these problems?

Re: Extra bed linen storage

  • I just keep them in the linen closet, but find that they don't stay fresh.....hence I am in the same position as you. When I have guests, I typically end up washing them right before they arrive to freshen them up. For my bed, I typically just use the same set so they are fresh out of the wash when I put them back on.

I don't have a linen closet Angry  Right now they just sit, folded on my laundry table in the laundry room in the cellar.  NO WAY to keep them fresh there lol  So I was hoping to get some creative storage ideas.

  • That's a bummer. However, mine don't even seem fresh being in my closet if that is any consolation. Hopefully you'll get some good tips on storage!

  • I keep my pretty fresh buy layering in some dryer sheets "fresh scent" into the foldes every month or so. and I keep them in the spare bedroom closet. The basement is way to musky to store any fabric.

  • How many extra sets of sheets are we talking about? When I had no linen closet, I only kept one extra set per bed (a total of two sets per bed). The extra set I put between the matress and the box springs. That way it was right there when I needed it.

Now that I have a linen closet, my stash has grown and I think I have three or four different sets for just our bed. For freshness, I have a bottle of linen spray in a very light lavendar scent (something similar to this). I spray it on the sheets very lightly when I put them on.

  • I store my sheets in the pillowcase that comes with the set.  But I love the dryer sheet idea!

Under the bed plastic storage deals that I have used in the past for sweaters. They don't smell right out of the dryer fresh but they definitely don't smell musty.

I love the dryer sheet idea too!

  • I store them in the linen closet and right before putting them on the bed, throw them in the dryer with a dryer sheet on an anti-wrinkle cycle (steam if you have it). Since we've moved and have an older dryer without that technology, not sure what I'll do, but probably just put in dryer on high heat with the dryer sheet right before use.
  • We keep it simple and have 2 sets of sheet for each bed. The spare set is kept in a linen box in each closet. I find that the sheets stay fresher in a closet that is more frequented.

I like the dryer sheet idea. I toss in hotel soap samples into the bins.

  • As soon as they come out of the dryer, I fold our spare sheets and keep them compact in the clear plastic zipper case our down comforter came in. The always come out fresh, but I occassionally toss them back in the dryer if folding them left creases.

We have a sheet set for our bed, our guest bed, and one spare set. I strip our sheets and wash them every other week (sometime more often when they need it). About once a month, I'll rotate the guest bed sheets, pillows and comforter to our bed, and put our bedding on the guest bed once they're washed. Both bedsets work well in out master, but one does look better with our guest room decor. Occasionally I'll pull the spare sheets out and put them on a bed, but they only match one of the bedsets and they aren't as soft as our other sets.

  • When I was a kid, my mom kept them in a drawer with a scented unburned candle.  She kept candles in sock/underwear drawers too.

This except my mom used scented soaps.  When we purchased our house the seller had put baby powder bottles in the two closets she used for sheets and towels.

  • I have 2 sets of sheets for each bed, one currently on each bed and a spare. I store all the sheets in the matching pillow case so I never have to search for all the bedding and like PP said I keep a dryer sheet in with the sheets to keep them fresh

I do this too.  (as an aside, I don't use dryer sheets in general because DH and I have sensitive skin).  Anyway, the pillowcase idea is a great solution to a somewhat disorganized linen closet, and it looks fantastic.  here's a picture (not my closet):
