Cruise to Alaska or Aruba all inclusive?

Lauren's post about the cruise got me thinking.  DH and I are planning a trip the last week in July to celebrate our anniversary and as a sort of last big vacation before the baby comes.  We already go the time off work and want to get something booked soon so prices don't go up too high.

We have narrowed it down to an Alaskan cruise out of Seattle or an all inclusive in Aruba.  All in all the prices will probably be comparable.

I also have to factor in by that time I will be 5 months pregnant, which is why I'm not so sure I want to be in Aruba at an all inclusive, not able to drink and laying on the beach all day.  Although on the other hand it might be kind of relaxing to not be on a time schedule and just relax and read some good books and eat the great food.

The cruise sounds fun but cruises are so busy I might get exhausted, and I definitely won't be able to do certain excursions and activities.

What do you ladies think?  Have any of you been to either of these places?

Re: Cruise to Alaska or Aruba all inclusive?

  • Okay I can't comment on the locations or the cruise, but I can say that during month 5 you will feel (hopefully and typically) AMAZING, so discomfort shouldn't be a concern. If you go to Aruba, know that you will burn more easily (pregnancy perk!) but it sounds like it will be more relaxing. While you won't have the first tri exhaustion, you will still get tired after a long day of work (or play!) and sometimes it will happen faster than you think. So maybe just consider your personal symptoms and what you'd like to do in each location in addition to the rest of everything. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

  • I would pick Alaska. It's a great time of year to go there (so I'm told).  And it's somewhere I really want to go!
