So, I finished this last Wednesday, but have been sick/stressed/overwhelmed/etc. for the past week so I'm just now posting it.
Finished Product:

After being washed: (to create the frays)

In total, it only took me 3 days to buy fabric, cut the squares, and sew it all together. It wasn't that stressful and the most tedious part was cutting the squares because I didn't have a rotary cutter (definitely recommended). I also can't sit or stand or lay down for very long at any given time so that prevented me from being able to just sit and work on it more. Hopefully anyone that's willing will give it a try and I'm sure it will be just as successful!
Some tips that I might have changed:
- Use a rotary cutter to cut the squares more efficiently
- Use cotton for the batting... real "batting" is expensive and not really necessary, but it's your preference
- Measure hems more closely (I'm impatient and didn't focus too much on every single hem, so a few of my squares were 1/8" off or so... but not a big deal
- Make the X's go all the way across instead of leaving 1/4" to spare.. it would have made things easier.. you're just going to cut the edges anyways.
*These tips are just things I would have changed myself... you may like how the original pattern was and not want to change up anything*

That looks really great!
I hope you're feeling well - that sounds awful not being able to stand or sit for a long time!
Soooo cute! I think I need to hurry up and get on this. I get to meet my friends' new not-even-a-week-old little boy in a couple weeks, and I'd like to make something for him. OMG babies. H is dealing well with my refueled baby fever thanks to the new little ones popping up all around us.
You did a great job!

Thanks ladies!! Yes, it's for baby Brooklyn when she gets here. I wanted to be able to say that "mommy made something special just for you." I plan on doing a rag quilt/diaper bag thing... hoping that will be easy enough
The not being able to sit/stand/lay down thing pretty much sucks! It's technically SPD (symphysis pubis dysfunction)... or pelvic dysfunction in general and it won't go away until the baby is born or after that... I may even have to have a c-section (eek!)... so being sick with a cold on top of all of it is even crappier... but at least I'm baking a healthy little bun in my oven! That's the only thing making it worth it right now!
