Moms--what do you pay babysitters?

I may have a babysitting job lined up for this summer. We haven't talked pay yet, but I have no clue what is reasonable these days. I'm a 26 year old high school teacher; I haven't nannied in 6 years! What would you think is a reasonable hourly rate? I would be picking up two girls from daycare in the mid afternoon and staying with them until about 7.

  • How old are the girls? $15/hour? I'm not really sure either.

  • I would probably charge $20-30/day. Most full time in home daycare around here is about $30+/day. During this time you will be using your car and most likely providing them a snack. Or maybe even dinner since it's until 7 at night. Are you caring for them at your house or theirs?

I would be caring for them at their house. Assume an average of 3-4 hours a day, some less some more. I'll use my car to pick them up.

I think with this information I would think somewhere between $10-15/hr would be reasonable.

Okay, after hearing from you all and talking to other mom friends, it sounds like $10-15 an hour is reasonable. Thanks! (If you're just now reading this, feel free to chime in with different input--I'm all ears!)
