So certain articles of clothing (the ones that I hang to dry) have started smelling funky. That nasty, musty smell that your clothes get when they sit in the washing machine for too long. It's mostly jeans, my husband's nice polo's, and just a few t-shirts, but they just smell so horrible that I don't want to wear them anymore (and some of them are my favorites). Anyone know how I can get rid of that?
Re: My Clothes Smell
Rewash them and use fabric softener.
Dry with bounce sheet.
Well, rewash them is the obvious, but try this: when your clothes get to the rinse cycle of the wash, put a few (or a lot of, if you love it) drops of an essential oil into the water. It should dilute enough, especially in heat, to permeate all the items and not just the top layer. I might be careful with a few delicate/sheer fabrics but I've been doing this for years and haven't ever gotten a stain. I don't know that it will eliminate the mildew smell (is it damp where you hang your clothes? Sun's really a good suggestion) but it'll help for sure.
