Re: Tuesday Randoms

  • DH lost his job today, over what seems like complete BS speculation.  We are so screwed :(

If anyone knows an attorney that does free consultations, I'm trying to talk DH into contacting one.

Oh man!!!! I'm so sorry. I've been there before and know what a sickening feeling that is.  I will ask TH if he has any recommendations.

If your husband carried the insurance, apply for state aid right away. You should be able to get medicade or MI Child for Ben.

Have him apply for UE right away. I'm guessing his work deny it, but he can fight that. Make sure he keeps good records of what happened.

If you want to get together, I will treat you to a drink some night.  I know what a stressful time this can be.

I strongly dislike Family Fare and their insane high prices.  If there wasn't construction, I would totally drive the extra mile to Meijer.

  • I am so sorry freeburger. This is a lot to take on all at once, but you guys will get this all figured out. Gvsubride gave really good advice.

Let us know if there is anything we can do.

I am so sorry.  :(  That is such a scary thing to deal with.

All of my lawyer contacts are in Muskegon, so I am no help.

I'm so sorry too.  I don't have any advice, but GVSU seems to offer some good tips.  Good luck and let us know if there's anything we can do to help.

All this. This is awful news and I can honestly say I know what you must be going thru right now.

Are you wanting a lawyer to try and get is job back. What field was he in? UE usually isn't denied unless he was violent in the workplace or doing drugs. It might be a longer wait to get it started so have him apply right away. You can PM me if you want more details too. Both DH & I have gone through the process.

  • I asked TH and he doesn't have any recommendations for lawyers.

Some advice that people gave us was to sit down right away and redo your budget. If you have any outstanding debt, call them and let them know what is going on. See if you can adjust payments at all.

Is there any sidework your husband can do? Even mowing lawns or something like that. Any extra cash that comes in can be used for groceries, diapers, etc. Can you increase hours at all?

You may also be able to apply for additional state aid. Don't be afraid to apply for you. You have paid into the system for years. That is what is is there for. Fo situations like this.

  • So sorry to hear that Freeburger. I don't know any lawyer recs either :(

  • I wish it was easier and quicker to get things taken care of.  I called the doctor at 9 this morning and explained what was going on. They said they would call the ER and get the files or charts or whatever, review them and get back to me.

I called them a little bit ago and they haven't even started reviewing the charts because they don't have them yet.  Angry

I'm annoyed that I even have to wait for them to review everything because I could tell her everything that is in them.  I already did.  Let's move on.

So I asked her what I should be taking for the pain, because the ER didn't give me anything.

She said Prilosec OTC.  Ummmm, ok?  Isn't that stuff for heartburn?  Ugh.

Are they confusing heartburn with gallbladder pain?

    Apparently, haha.

  • Hmm that's weird. Two different problems and they say prilosec?!

  • Freeburger, I'm so sorry.  It's frazzling when a major change happens like that out of the blue.  I hope that tomorrow (after a day of freaking out) the situation looks less dire.  GVSU gave you every piece of advice I would.

Mol, I don't know what's going on, but I hope you get some answers soon!

    Thanks!  Hopefully tomorrow...

  • Thanks for the advice and kind words everyone.  DH is going to draft a resume tonight and start the UE process tomorrow.  And thankfully we have insurance through my job and we have had quite a few nurses quit the past few weeks so my manager is letting me pick up work during the days too.  So, I'll be exhausted and hating my job soon I'm sure, but we will manage financially.  And DH will be responsible for cooking and cleaning, so that will probably make him appreciate me more ;)

D&M, hope you get some answers.  Prilosec and the like cut down how much bile and stomach acid that your body produces, so it can indirectly help some with gallbladder issues too.  But it's not a permanent fix, so I hope they get it taken care of soon!

  • Bummer, Freeburger. I lost my job Monday night. Seems to be the trend these days. One tough nerd has turned out to be one giant douchenozzle.
