Water/cubes won't work in fridge?

We can't figure out why our water and ice cube maker in the fridge (on the door) won't work any more? We tried replacing the filter and straightening the coil/hose and it still won't work. Any ideas on what might be wrong? It's a GE and it's only about 2 years old. Grrr!

Re: Water/cubes won't work in fridge?

  • Happened to friends of ours- it was the motherboard for the ice/water part of the door- they had to have a computer part replaced. Is it still under warranty?

  • It's possible a line could be blocked with frozen water somewhere along the way.  I think that happened to my parents a couple years ago.  I don't remember what they did to fix it, though.

  • When that happens with us it's usually a frozen line. Turned out to be a common issue that they had to come in and fix often, but I think it was still covered or free because they knew it was a defect.

  • We have a GE Profile fridge 2 years old as well that this happened to last month. We troubleshooted on our own without luck so we hired a GE service man. It cost us 80.00 just to have them diagnose the problem. He told us that it was the entire ice maker that went and needed a new electronic board, Cost us 250.00 total. Apparently they say this happens often. Go to GE website for a GE repairman if you so desire.
  • Ugh! We have a GE Profile as well and it's just over 2 years old and the ice machine stopped producing. We get maybe one cube a day.

    FRICK!

  • Unfortunately this is a common problem with GE fridges. You probably have a frozen line somewhere.
