Anyone have advice on St. Augustine?

So DH and I have decided to take a babymoon for a long weekend in St. Augustine.  We've never been and it looks so beautiful - and pet friendly so the fur baby can come with us!  We've found a B&B on the beach so lodging is all taken care.  Is there anything in particular that we should/have to do while we're there?  Any restaurants you would rec?

Re: Anyone have advice on St. Augustine?

  • I would recommend the winery tour, but I don't think you'd have much fun there being pregnant and all ; )   I love 95 Cordova to eat, especially the filet eggrolls for an appetizer...YUM!
  • i love st augustine! my husband and i went there for our 1st anniversary (and pretty sure thats where this baby was conceived lol)... but they have a sailboat called the schooner freedom that does sunset cruises and such.. really pretty... and you have to do a ghost tour! they are so cheesy but so fun.. you can do a walking one, a horse drawn carraige at night (thats the one we did), or even ride in a hearse! ha.. also the tour of flagler college was pretty awesome. the fort and the lighthouse have tours and those were good. we also did the alligator farm- kind of like a reptile zoo but we had fun! as far as restaurants i never got to visit but heard wonderful things about the raintree restaurant and steakhouse (might be a little more on the $$ side). A1A aleworks is right in the middle of the city and really popular. theres the columbia restaurant there too. hope that helps a little!
  • If you're interested in lounging by the beach most of the time than the beach is good, but I really prefer to stay in town. The Cedar House Inn is my favorite B&B in St. A.

    Restaurants:

Gypsy Cab Co. - Amazing casual food, more of a "locals" place, the food is insanely good and it's cheap, perfect for lunch.

A1A - Go here! I repeat GO HERE! We usually do lunch AND dinner if we're there for a weekend, it's THAT good!

The Tasting Room - Fantastic tapas, great for a romantic dinner! Skip the full meal and choose lots of tapas instead. Be sure DH gets the sangria it's sooo yummy! It's a nicer place, with a relaxed and kinda "sexy" feel. There are tables and sofa type seating too. Make a reservation.

Bunnery - Mmmmm, eat breakfast or lunch here you won't regret it. It's a sweet little bakery with very tasty food.

Cafe Del Hildago - Stop here for the best gelato I've ever had!

Don't forget to take a ghost tour! Those are always fun! We usually do the pub crawl so no help for specific suggestions sorry!

Check out the fort - it's beautiful and really a must see if you've never done it.

If you can manage the 94857345098370 stairs then the Lighthouse is amazing, we usually go everytime we're in St. A. The view, oh my!!!

Oh check for special events too (just google) if the Arts fest is going on then definitely check it out! Lots of talented artist.

Don't forget to check out the side streets, there are beautiful houses, quaint shops full of fun stuff and history all around. So take your time and explore!

Feel free to ask any other questions, we go to St A. at the very LEAST 2x a year, I love it there (heck we were even married there!)

  • I love the pub crawl ghost tour...so much fun!

We also loved the winery tour & going to see the Lighthouse and beach area. Visit Flagler Museum too it's gorgeous! St. Augustine is such a nice little place to visit you will have a wonderful time no matter what you do :-)

ps- we also did the Ghost tour and trolley tour both were fun & the trolley is a good way to get around without walking everywhere!

  • Thanks so much ladies!  So the ghost tour is a definite!  We will check out everything else.  Now I'm really excited for our trip!
  • Sorry I am late on this.  We did the trolly tour thingee, which I always rec. in any city that is new to you.  Is is a pretty cheap way to get around and see everything.  The beach there was wonderful!  As some pp said, the nightime horse and carriage ride was great.  Have fun!!
