Where would you go on a long weekend?

DH's bday is coming up and we can take a few days off. I'd like to take a quick trip somewhere nice (would prefer to drive but if there are any quick, direct flights somewhere I'm interested too). We usually go to Dallas or Beaver's Bend and we've been to Santa Fe. I'd like to try somewhere new. I was thinking maybe somewhere in Colorado but am not too familiar with the areas (We have been to Denver briefly and didn't love but it was for a boring conference so that may have something to do with it). On vacations we like to take it easy - lounge by the pool with drinks, get room service, get massages, take a yoga class - pretty much try to relax. Any ideas?

Re: Where would you go on a long weekend?

  • Look into Estes Park, CO. H and I took a trip and got engaged there. It's pretty touristy, but gorgeous. I'm sure there are plenty of spas, yoga studios, etc., and the scenery really is outstanding. There's good camping nearby if you're into that, or Denver is a short drive away. If you weren't all that impressed with Denver, I'd check out Ft. Collins (the New Belgium brewery there is really cool) or Boulder (total hipster town, but really fun).

  • If we were to take a long weekend trip right now, we'd probably go to Austin.  I've never been to Colorado, but that is on our to-visit list as well.
  • What about Phoenix?  You can get some extremely cheap flights on SW - and there are some really great hotels. It is getting somewhat hot there right now so the hotels are usually offering some really great deals (including all inclusive options).

We keep meaning to take a long weekend to Austin, but it just hasn't happened yet.

  • I'll let you know how Eureka Springs is when we get back next week :) We've done Beaver's Bend, as well. That was lovely. So low-key.
