Re: tammy and other ne moms
I looked at St. Johns church and they have a program a few days a week but are completely booked up for September. Chase is on the waiting list but there are about 10 kids ahead of him on each list (morning and afternoon). I alreayd have him on the waiting list for the 4 yr old program.
There is also Johnson Memorial which is on Longshore and they did have some openings left, but it's not a full day program. Only mornings or afternoons (3 days a week). Plus you have to go in as a mother's helper once a month. It wasn't something that would work for us.
St. Martin of Tours has a great 3yo program that is all day, and they even have an after school CARES program. However, the tuition is a bit high. I think it's around $5300 for the year.
Our Lady of Ransom does a full day 4yo program that looks great. My niece will be going there in the fall.
So, to sum it all up. We have nothing set up for preschool for Chase. Most spaces are full or out of our price range. I also think DH is not ready to let him go. He's worst then I am. ;o) I fiugre that I'll be home with him from Sept- December and will probably get a few museum memberships and plan fun outing's or gtg's at "chawwwleee's house". Make room for us Coll. hahaha
Question.
So, I know the Bumpiverse talks about MDO and all this stuff, but are there really a ton of things like that around here?
Due to some changes, Baby Numbers is no longer going to daycare. I like the concept of daycare a lot though.
Is there such thing as pre-school at like 18 months or something? Obviously not some sort of rigourous academic pursuit, but like two mornings a week for three hours or something of that nature?
Am I making up something that doesn't even exist?
We have a Tiny Tots program that was Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am - 11:45am at a local church type place. It was for 2 yo's. They also have a 3yo & 4yo room that was 3 days a week (3yos) and 5 days a week(4yos), still only from 9am - 11:45am.
I beleive Colleen mentioned there being a MDO program at a smaller type of church in her hood.
I think they are there, you just have to find them. Although, I'm not sure about the ages in which they start. I guess that varies by place.
On another board I post on, a lot of moms in southern states have a MDO program that takes kids 6months and up. We need more of these around here!
thanks tammy...i cannot believ they are friggin waitlisting? really?
the dil of a neighbor runs lower mayfair (next to ethan allen) she is super sweet and great with the kids...it is a crazy low price (maybe 200something for the month f/t)...my church saint james (at castor and pratt) has an excellent program for super cheap as well, again, awesome teacher, very clean, etc. my problem is i can't do 9-3 b/c i work. my sitter has said she would take her though
keira was in an in home sitter until she was 3. to be honest, she got bored...she needed a routine and schedule and to play with other kids her age. she started a neighborhood day care (which at 2-3, is more like school) she goes 3 days a week for 114/wk. it is working out great and she LOVES it. i have left ari at the sitters 5 days and keira goes there 2 days. i was totally against a daycare for a baby, but thats just me. it is KILLING me to do 2 seperate drop offs in the am. i believe that full days would be best b/c that 1/2 day stuff u drop off, get home and have to go back to get them. ideal for me would be 3 full days. i will let u know if i hear of anything, u do the same?
amy--sorry your situation didn't work out...there is NOTHING more stressful than not being comfortable with where u are leaving your baby. when he turns 2 he will be in a toddler program at most daycares, and stay there until the end of the school year that he turns 3. as i said, at that point is really isn't a "daycare" but more a preschool setting. they sing, play games, art, learn letters & numbers, etc. they also take naps in the afternoon.
until feb, i have never been in a daycare before...and it killed me to have to look at them. the one where we ended up was the 1st i had looked at, the owner then told me to go look at a bunch and come back to see her....well, some of them made me sick, they were like baby jails
the works looked a mess, so did the kids, etc. do what u need to do now and then re-evaluate your situation when you feel baby numbers is ready for a program. but take my word, they can really differ...for fun, look at least a dozen. good luck
Tam, come on over! I love to have other people around to help entertain the kiddos.
We talked about it a lot and aren't doing ps for Charlie this year. He knows all his colors , letters, numbers and his vocab is great. I definitely think he could benefit from the structure and being away from me, but I think one year of ps will be fine
We are looking at a MDO program for him. I think he and Sam could benefit from time apart from each other. My plan is to drop Charlie at a MDO once or twice a week and then do a class or some type of activity just me and Sam

Scarlett goes to a MMO (mothers morning out) class - it was for 2yr (most turned 3 during the year). It was 2 days a week 945-1145.
It was a great program and it got her out of my moms house and around other kids. It was $90 per month.
Yesterday was her last day of "school" until September. She passes with flying colors but we have to work on Tattletailing - LOL!!
