I got an invite in the mail for my half-brothers high school graduation party in June.
Neither my sister or brother got one, just me. I'm sort of confused about this.
We don't really know each other, like at all. We've spoken all of maybe 10 sentences to each other our whole lives. The last time I saw him was our Dads funeral almost 5 years ago, and before that I only saw him occassionally in passing.
I don't really feel comfortable attending, but I almost feel bad blowing him off.
Do I not go, but send him a card or something? Just pretend I didn't get the invite? Do nothing?
My sister (who was never accepting of him for various reasons) said that he was probably just hoping I would send him money or something. I was a little irked by this statement, but knowing his mother, there's a good chance my sister is right. I don't know.
I'm confuzzled.
Re: WWYD?
Since you don't really know him, but is your half brother, I would just send a card.
This is my relationship with my half siblings- I've met them a handful of times, but made the decision at 20 (after 6 months of interaction with him in my entire stuff) not to have a relationship with him.
I am FB friends with my twin brothers, but that's about it (they live in CO) and I got a graduation announcement and invitation to their party.
I sent cards and $20 Target GC. Even if they were only doing it for the $, they're going off to college, and need the cash for dorm stuff.
Stand up for something you believe in.
I would probably just send a card.
This sounds similar to what I would do. Send a card, a Target GC, and call it a day. The thought's there so you don't look like a jerk blowing him off, and you don't need to subject yourself to the awkwardness of going to the party. Done and done.
