BR: Woombie

Has any of the moms used this vs. swaddling ? They have them on sale today on http://www.mamabargains.com/ and I'm curious as to if it was effective or not.

Re: BR: Woombie

  • I have one! My best friend swears by it! She told me that it's the number 1 baby item to get. She bought me mine. If it's cheap, I'd pick ine up!
  • Thanks !

That site has them for $14.50 today and BRU normally sells them for $30.

  • I didn't use the Woombie, I used the SwaddleMe's, but I definitely think using something like that is much easier than regular swaddling. It's hard to get the hang of a good swaddle!

Now, Sami was never one for swaddling.  We used the blankets at the hospital while we were there, and I think of the 4 SwaddleMes we received, I only opened one... she was done with it by 3 weeks.

Were the SwaddleMe's hard to use, then?  We have two that we received as gifts and I already washed them.  I did save the box they came in because it had the swaddling instructions but it looks a bit complicated.  We also got a HALO sleepsack that can be used to swaddle too.  The Woombie looks much, much easier to use though..

Nope, they're super easy. You just open up the flaps, stick baby in the pocket, cross their arms, and then tuck the flaps around them and stick the velcro tabs down. easy peasy. The only thing I would suggest is don't wash them with anything else because the velcro sticks to everything!

  • It will depend on your baby.  Alex liked being swaddled but hated having his arms tucked into it so we just used receiving blankets.  Now we don't swaddle him because it's been warmer and he gets too hot.  When sleeping in his crib we use the bigger swaddling blanket that we received from the hospital folded in half and then in half again tucked in vertically across Alex's belly  and legs to keep him in place at night.  This is what they did in the bassinet at the hospital and it works awesome.  He's only now just starting to wiggle out of it.
  • Evie is like Sami and Alex... She doesn't like to have her arms tucked in.  I have been taking the receiving blankets and wrapping it around her chest and below and leaving her arms free.  I swear when I tried to wrap her arms up in a swaddle, it would eventually wake her up because she couldn't them out.

I do have a sleep sack I have been using the past couple nights because it's been warmer.  I am thinking I'll get a couple more. She sleeps fine in them.

I agree with Christina that it will depend on your baby.  Getting one or two wouldn't be a bad idea.. but also remember that you can get those Aden and Anais blankets and do a nice swaddle where the baby isn't completely restricted but is well tucked in.  A much better deal IMO.
