Should he apply?

Dh was self employed until the end of last year. He finally found a job and started the first day of March. It is a temp to hire position but he would only get hired if there is enough work (which should be decided around Aug/Sept ish). This is an entry level position and pays ok but no real chance of moving up.

There is a job open at a local company that would have amazing benefits and a lot better pay. Starting pay is about $.50 more than currently making but chance to move up and he would get union benefits.

If he got the job I know he would be happy (well hopefully if it is as good as it seems). My only concern is that he has only been with current job for a short amount of time. Does that look bad to apply? I assume he could put on his app or tell them in the interview it is a temp position.
