He's a douchebag. Super super douchebag.
I hope Maria gets remarried to someone doting and lovely and wonderful.

I'm not shocked or surprised. There are plenty of men and politicians out there who do stuff like this.
I am sad for Maria Shriver, who I like. I think it's just disgusting that he waited until AFTER he was out of office to tell her about this, I guess because he needed a loving wife by him for his campaign and nobody's going to elect a cheater? Blatantly selfish and self-serving.
Huge DB. And the fact that this housekeeper or whatever she was also lied to her own husband. I was telling a friend and my H that I bet Ahhhhnold paid her off to not tell anyone or signed a non-disclosure agreement. While listening to the news on my way home last night, a reporter that covered his political career said he is all ego and didn't take Maria's considerations or opinions into anything he did...for instance reporter noted that he decided to run for governor and didn't even consult her about it.
I feel bad for Maria and their kids and hope they can heal. He's not the first and won't be the last.

Me too.
I feel so awful for Maria and her children. It's such a devastating thing to go through -- no matter what the circumstances. They just had their lives blown to shreds because of the selfish, immature, irresponsible and stupid choices of her husband and this other woman. And yes, I absolutely blame this other woman too. She was a married woman, and an employee of the family. She had a responsibility here too. And now there's an innocent child who has to carry this awful legacy with him for the rest of his life, whether he likes it or not. That's sure to cause damage -- and possibly create a pattern in his own life that leads him to do some stupid and damaging things to himself and others.
Arnold needs serious help. Perhaps he has some sort of sex/love addiction which he needs help and treatment for (his history of infidelities/gropings would be one clue that this could be the case). That doesn't absolve him of responsibility, by any means. In fact, like an alcoholic or drug addict, he has a responsibility to get help and get "sober", if this is in fact the case, before he does more damage to himself and the people who love him.
And, lastly, I wish the media would spend as much (if not more) time lauding celebrities and others who DON'T cheat -- especially the ones who work really hard at having happy, successful relationships/marriages. But, I get that such stories aren't gory and sexy enough to sell to the general public who'd rather watch other people's train wrecks. What they don't realize is that all of this attention on such things (both condemning it, and even "legitimizing" and minimizing it) is creating a culture where adultery is actually "normal" and "acceptable" (or at least can be "justified" or the blame shifted to someone other than the cheaters, etc.) So effing sickening.
I completely agree.
Actually I do think the media tries to do profiles of celebrities who don't cheat. I've read several about couples who are making it work despite the odds. There just aren't that many of them and they tend to be not such high profile celebs who don't constantly seek the limelight outside of their actual performance/work. I doubt Arnold has any intention of going into counseling for his addiction or he would have done so already. I just think Maria knew for years or at least had strong suspicions that her husband cheated. I have wondered for awhile if Maria has had an eating disorder because if you look at her wedding photos her face was much fuller. Of course, she was much younger and all women's faces usually thin out but not to the degree that hers has. Her face has been so gaunt and bony looking for years. Hopefully, this will be the start of a new, better chapter in her life.

I would think the media would hesitate to profile celebrity men who don't cheat on their wives because, um...how do we know they don't until we know they do?
Also, I feel like I remember a bit of media buzz around Will Smith after an interview he did about his devotion to his marriage and family?
Obviously it's less common, but I think that goes back to my first point. If Will Smith ever got caught cheating, they'd spend months replaying all the hype about him being a "family man" over and over.
Also, profiling people who don't cheat...it's just so...like...shouldn't people who marry just NOT cheat? I don't understand why that's celebratory or profile-worthy. Don't get married if you want to sex up other hookers and housekeepers. It's a pretty simple concept.
Yep, of course in some cases they got married before their fame and wouldn't have had as many hooking up opportunities. That in no way excuses that because opportunity shouldn't matter. You should be able to say no I'm in love with my wife, end of story. Unfortunately, a lot of men behave differently when they have new opportunities to cheat.

I'm confused. How does coverage condemning lying and adultery create a culture where those behaviors are normal and acceptable? I think if the media didn't give this some attention, a lot of people would be wondering why when they finally found out about this and screaming about a cover-up.
THe mercury this morning was all "why is Maria the one who left the house?" and all I could think was:If I were her, I'd take the kids and leave. He could be alone in the house we shared with all of those memories by himself. And then I'll clean him out in the divorce because I'm a *** KENNEDY and his expiration date is fast approaching.
