I read a lot about register rewards from Walgreens, and how there is a certain order to handing the cashier your coupons BUT I just dont understand it all.
Is it worth the trouble I think it is, or can anyone explain to me how it works?
Re: Walgreens couponers?
Register Rewards are like a gift card for a certain dollar amt off a future purchase. They are good for 2 weeks. You can use them the same day on a second purchase.
When using them and coupons hand them to the cashier in this order...RR, mfg coupons, store coupons.
With RR, you must have the same # of items as RR. For example, if you have 2 RR each for $1 off, you must buy at least 2 items. If you have 1 RR for $2 off, you only need to buy 1 item.
I have found that Walgreens does a good job of matching sales to that week's new coupons (esp when the new P & G coupons come out), and the ad states what items have a new coupon that week.
A few weeks ago, I took 2 trips to Walgreens, and using RR, mfg coupons, store coupons, and sales, I was able to buy $159 worth of stuff for only $59!
I'm still learning myself but I'm starting to get the hang of it.
I'm not sure on the coupon order - I keep reading different things. You can't use a register reward that is worth more than the total transaction and you must have at least as many items as you have coupons. For example:
You buy 2 body washes at BOGO.
You have two manufacturer's coupons for $2 off the body wash - you can use both as you are purchasing two items.
You then buy an item that has a $1 off Walgreen's coupon and a $1 off manufacturer's coupon.
That means you are buying 3 items but using 4 coupons. In order to be able to do the transaction you need a "filler" item so you should buy a cheap package of gum or something like that.
I got a great deal on Huggies at the weekend. The jumbo packs were $9 each with $3 back in register rewards if you bought 2. I also had two $3 off manufacturer's coupons. This made my transaction total go down to $12 instead of $18 but then I also had $5 in register rewards from another transaction bringing my total down to $7. I then got the $3 register reward back for my next transaction so it was like paying $4! I did the same thing at Rite Aid though their diapers were priced at $10 each with $5 back when you spent $20.
I hope I explained that right - still figuring it out myself!
Thanks girls for the descriptions!
One more question...the RR. On my next purchase I can use it on anything (but one item per RR)?
Awesome. Thanks!
Have you girls gotten any great deals this week from there?
The diapers were all I purchased this week. Last week I got awesome deals on toilet cleaner.
I've found that the entire population of Sacramento seems to have caught on to the couponing craze so everything is sold out quickly and even with rainchecks, they're still sold out for weeks (still waiting for my free toothbrushes from CVS!). My trick is to now go out as early as possible on Sunday morning. I work out the deals on Saturday night, clip the coupons I already have then get the ones from the Sunday paper that I need then go. We're out in the middle of nowhere and the only store by us is a Walgreens so I want to give them my money anyway. Problem is they're a smaller store and don't carry everything. On Sundays I first go to Walgreens, then CVS, then Safeway, then Rite Aid then another local grocery chain!
Haha, I agree a lot of people around here have caught on to the coupon craze too. I see lots of shoppers with huge coupon binders, and a lot of times if you dont go the day the sale starts, they sell out quickly (and like you said it takes weeks for them to re stock). I need to get better at planning my trips on saturday nights for sunday mornings.
A friend of mine just posted about this on her coupon page on FB today. Here is a link to the note. You might have to Like her page to read it though. (Link should open in new window.)
