I need your opinion! With owning a home business, having grad school classes, a husband, two dogs, and life to run...cleaning the house is just something that has always been on the back burner. I've usually managed it a BIT, but this summer is just too intense and it's time I got a HOUSE CLEANER! Something I've wanted for a long time. Here's the hard part that I'd love any opinion on!
I could go with a more professional house cleaner that will charge about $80 every two weeks, or someone who is BARELY starting out that would charge $15/hr. Professional Pros: fast, know what they're doing. Cons: expensive. Novice Pros: cheap, and cleaning is cleaning right? She has janitorial experience. Can't be too hard. Cons: MIGHT take her a bit longer, not much experience cleaning houses.
I'd rather go with the novice, since it seems like once you do it a few times it can't be too hard and she'll catch on fast. But is there anyone who has experience with this kind of thing that can advise either way? Thanks!
Re: Cleaning service...what to do?!
I'd still be wary. If she's injured she could still sue you for more than your insurance might pay out. If she breaks or damages something you have little to no recourse. If she's not paying taxes, they IRS can track you down as well.
We used a professional company that was also about $80/session, every two weeks. Bonded and insured, so taxes, damage and injury were not a concern, even though we have insurance. Peace of mind was certainly worth it. Plus, it's only every OTHER week, so around $200/month. If you can fit it into the budget, do it!

I'd go with the professional company. We hired the cleaning lady who was cleaning the house for the sellers. She was good, but my expectation of what is clean and what the sellers thought was clean was two different things. She also wanted $2/hr more when she started. I just decided it was better to hire a professional to do this.
I used to have a woman clean my house when I had roomates who was not part of a company. I knew she had cleaned some of my families houses and could be trusted and she only charged $35 for our 2 bedrooom apartment. We have since moved and have cleaned our own condo for the past 5 years. My husband and I are now considering hiring a professional company to come in once a month since we don't know anyone here who does it independently. We definitely can't afford $200/mo. for it though.
I'd go with the non professional cleaner if she had good references.
