I hope your dh lets you paint the cabinets. It's sound almost backwards but I totally feel like I am able to keep mine more clean because I wipe them down as soon as I notice anything and I think with other cabinets it can build up a little bit without you really noticing it right away. Maybe I am nuts but I feel like I can relax looking around and knowing no dirt is missed. LOL

Thought it coudl help a pro/con list. LOL

Re: *ballerina*

  • I'm seriously going to draw up a pro/con list a la Rory Gilmore style.  I have to agree with keeping it clean easier.  My bathroom cabine is always spotless because I see every drop of grime on it against the white.

  • Looooove the Gilmore Girl reference, and exactly. You should.

I just remember growing up the cabinets we had we would scrub down (weekly chore type of stuff) but then when the light would hit them just right you would see all the stuff you missed. It sucked.

  • Yeah for sure.  I mean, the cabinets aren't THAT bad, they are in great shape.  This is all based on the worst I've seen of course.  They are just totally NMS.  Yellowy oak.  Not a fan.

  • Yeah I highly doubted you would have funky cabinets, and I know what you mean about the oak (though I use to think they were super fancy shmancy)  I've been thinking lately with a growing household I can see myself skipping a kitchen scrub down on ocassion but the white is sooo 'in your face' that you grab something and wipe stuff when you see it mostly.

If/when we move I would like to do white again but just a better type of cabinet I think ours are like the Ikea special or something, at the least the previous owners added some molding to them.

  • Ours are builder grade, some of the insides of the drawers and cabinets are not in the best shape (think water damage), but there's no way in hell DH will agree to new cabinets.  I really want new countertops, but again, I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon.
