In home daycare mommies ?
I am in school for early childhood education and Will be done with in the next year. I would love to do an in home child care and would like to know what you ladies looked for when choosing the right home for your LO. Also if you have any suggestions that as a parent you would like to see that would be great. I have a infant 3 nights a week, but could you also recommend any hours that would be helpful to working parents?
Thank you ladies!
Re: In home daycare mommies ?
When I was looking at in homes the biggest thing I looked for was a daycare room that wasn't someone's living room. I wanted a baby only space that didn't have a 50 inch TV in it...believe it or not, I only found one like that in my search.
This was of course in addition to whether or not the person was qualified etc.
Similar to Hope-I didn't want there to be a big TV in the room - at my daycare, its actually in the basement in a cabinet so when the doors are shut it's not even apparent it's there.
I'm eco-friendly, so I was looking for a daycare with similar philosophies - there are lots of wooden toys at mine which I love. My daycare practices Waldorf like principles, which I don't 100% follow, but I like a lot of.
My daycare has a playground thing outside and they are big on going outside and for nature walks which was also important to me. They try to get outside every day.
I think overall, having a routine and organized way for things impressed me - my daycare has a hook for each child when they walk in the door for them to hang their bags and stuff on. She also has kind of a daily rhythm she calls it for how things flow, although there are certain periods where each day the activity changes.
I try to look at the place from a child's eye and see how fun it would be (and safe obviously).
My daycare if flexible on hours - like all but my daughter are there 6:30 - 4:30. We are there 7:30 - 5:30 - but we were there first and she was okay with it. I will say though, the she's downsizing later this year as the number of kids she had made it too much and burnt her out for time with her own family - so definitely keep that in mind too.
Oh Kelly has a good point about the snow days - not closing on those is important.
